I've been hearing a lot of ads for Emirates on the radio recently, like on 1010 wins.
I get quite excited when I hear them!

I concur. The showers do get boring after a while. I did take a shower on the A380 once due to the novelty factor but have not bothered since.I prefer to sleep instead.

The trip reports here have much more info.If you are a member of skywards , then its not too difficult to fly F (if you are booked in J and use miles to upgrade)

If you are a skywards gold member , then you might be able to fly F (even with your original booking in Y) by using your skywards miles to upgrade to J on an overbooked flight ex DXB and taking your chances on a upgrade to F.

I find the showers a great feature; after a long flight I want a shower anyway and being able to have one on the plane an hour before arriving makes great use of time stuck in a metal tube and , if connecting, saves having to try and get a shower in the short time available at the airport

I agree here. I thought the showers were more of a novelty, but after a long-haul flight I always want to take a shower, and getting on on-board makes it so I don't have to deal with it when I land.

I just wish larger bathrooms/showers could be had on the 777.

Yea, the showers are the reason I lean towards the A380 more. The bar is ok, but I don't spend much time there anyway, I'd rather relax in my suite. I only prefer the 777 for having fewer suites, but since JFK is going all A380, I'll be on it much more than ever before. Usually I'm around 60% A380, and 40% 777, but I'm glad I can shower before landing in the morning in Dubai and New York, with 203/204 becoming A380.

I think showers only make sense on ultra long-haul flights (12+ hours). On anything shorter people will prefer to just sleep. Also, everybody will request that slot just before landing. How does EK manage that?

It is based on booking. When I get on , I book a time and assuming that time slot is available, all sorted

Surely it depends on how long you've been travelling as well.

I've only used the shower once but it came on my third flight in a row, with no opportunity to shower at any transit stop and over 24 hours since I'd left home. Before we were even in the air I'd booked the first slot.

EK must have many itineraries where this is the case.

Just to take up on ft101's point on previous flights from the Scotland to NZ I have had an overnight stop in Dubai and so had plenty of time to freshen up before the flight to Australia. I've always taken a shower about 3 hours from landing in Sydney followed by breakfast.

For the first time I am taking the new evening flight from Glasgow and transferring to EK406 to Melbourne and Auckland. Landing in Dubai at 08:15 and departing again at 10:10 I am a bit worried that there will be no time for anything other than going gate to gate particularly if we park at a remote stand. (Anyone have any thoughts on how busy security is likely to be at that time?)

My plan is to take the first available shower slot after take off. Probably I'll have another on the ground at Melbourne or maybe even over the Tasman. Breakfast before landing, in the lounge and again after take off is at least two breakfasts too many but I do love a shower on the A380.
