You will not be able to carry the whole 40kg in one bag. It will have to split into two. The largest amount in one bag cannot exceed 32kg. Health and Safety wise, Emirates will not allow it on board.

Yes your total will be 40kg+7kg.

Absolutely agree on the maximum 32kg - they enforce, at least at DXB airport. If you start your journey somewhere else and they allow to check in more you could theoretically risk that the baggage is getting stuck at DXB when transiting. So better no risk taking and put into 2 baggage pieces.

From personal experience, you're correct. JFK actually doesn't care, at least in F/J. I've sometimes been well over the 70lbs for F/J. It still makes it through to HYD. Never have had luggage stuck in DXB (don't think they would do that). Hope it never happens! Usually I'm a carry on only traveller, but if I'm taking stuff to family in India, there is a lot of luggage. Also, on one occasion (in J not F) I was traveling with my family of 4 including me. The most bags to check was 8, but at JFK only, they let us check in 2 extra smaller ones, at check in. Not because of too many carry ons, they just didn't mind it. That only happened once though, so we had a total of 10 checked in bags. It's a lot I know
