Not if the seat next to me would be free otherwise, but taken by the seat grabber.

I hope she makes the switch to the Etihad's super luxury Residences when they are in operation ........ That might be to her fancy a little more.

Y to a residence is sure going to pinch more than just arguing with the FAs and trying to bulldoze your way through....

One flight on BA, after boarding and getting comfy, I see this middle-aged man glaring at me. He then gets up and goes forward. Next, an FA storms up the aisle, spilling precious champagne, screeches to a halt at my row and says to me "Excuse me, economy class is back this way young man."

My retort to FA: "I think you meant to ask me for my boarding pass, young lady."

To the other passenger: "Your vigilance is admirable, but what made you think this seat wasn't mine?" He denied all knowledge of events. Awkward flight for them both.
Every time I fly EK in J, I keep expecting this to happen (secretly I kind of want it to happen, since it would entertain me). I am a military contractor, so I have long hair, giant beard, arms covered in tattoos, and generally have a wardrobe that is basically cargo pants and t-shirts. Whenever I am in the lounge, or onboard, I definately get a lot of "cut-eye" directed my way.

Had a few of the more well heeled passengers (based on their clothes, and choice of watch) ask me questions in the bar (A380), but so far no one has out right challenged me.

I'd assume you were a military contractor on Iraq or Afganistan...

Plenty on the 380 back to MAN on a regular basis.

All sorts in J and F these days, business people, independently wealthy, people in **ahem cough** "cash" businesses, miltary, people who shoot pirates. The 380 bar is a great place to meet some very interesting people who work in some very interesting places.

Most military contractors are US/UK, Canadians in the field are rare, so when I fly home it's usually just me on the plane. I am sure some people figure it out, but that doesn't mean they like me in their midst. As other have mentioned, quite a few flying J/F, have a bit of an "elitist" mindset. Having a guy who looks like an extra for Sons of Anarchy around them, isn't something they are used too

So what if you are young, or not a businessman? Good for you if you can afford a J ticket out of your own pocket. And good for you if you are smart enough to land a job that will fly you around the world in J.

They're probably just jealous that at your age they couldn't fly J; or that they weren't able to meet the eligibility criteria to apply for your job.

As for rich kids who have their parents pay for their J ticket, then they're just lucky. Life ain't fair, and will never be. It's their parents' decision to use their cash whatever way they feel like. None of my business.

In all my years of flying in first and business (mostly paid for by my past employer, but more recently out of my own pocket) I can't say I have ever had an "elitist mindset." I'm not even sure that's possible when using normal commercial aircraft......

On the other hand ........ were I lucky enough to have the necessary resources, then I might be tempted to travel in REAL style by chartering private jets - not least for short-haul hops within Europe where these days the whole experience with most carriers & airports can be both disproportionately time-consuming and generally less than pleasant. And then I might even find myself starting to feel "elitist" about it !!

I don't get this either. I'm young(ish) and travel in tshirt, jeans and hoodies. Nobody has ever said or intimated anything to me about it. I realize I'm lucky I can afford to fly J or F sometimes. But I earned the money and miles, so I feel good about it. My employer only pays Y for all levels of staff. My job can be in tough places, so the pay partly makes up for that.

I'd love to chat to someone interesting like CanuckContractor on a flight.

What makes you think he is interesting? Maybe he just services port-a-potties. Then again, maybe some people would find that interesting.

Clearly you people have not flown on EK to RUH/JED. There are real horrors on those flights.

Last December JED-DXB an Arab lady had a heated argument that was escalated to the Purser. From the translation that the passengers gave, apparently she did not like who she was seated next to and demanded a change on the fully booked flight. The boarding in JED is a shambles and the FA's agreed to swap her seat after take-off. She (loudly) refused and delayed the push back as she would not sit down even after the Purser had demanded. This was in Y.

The same flight had another Arab family (father seated in F, 3 wives and 10+ obnoxious children with Filipino nanny in Y). There are no words bad enough to describe how obnoxious and down right disgusting those children were. They ran up and down the isles, OVER passengers like me and the rest of my family, jumped on their seats and played with other peoples overhead storage. Almost everyone within a 20 seat radius was PISSED OFF and the mothers and nanny did absolutely NOTHING to at least try and control them. They were interfering with everyone's TV's and even remote controls by touching and slamming on them (on the brand new A380). They even jumped in the mother(s) lap while she plainly ignored it and watched TV. They completely disregarded everything any FA had told them. Even when passengers tried to stop them they laughed and actually spat at them.

You could not watch TV around them nor sleep, as they were kicking your seat and had their grimy fingers all over the touch screens tpfrom their seats in front.

During landing they still would not sit down or buckle up. At one point three FA's shouted "PLEASE SIT DOWN" loudly from three parts of the plane and they ignored it.

You can imagine how pleased I was when I took a photo on my iPad of them standing and jumping on the seats during landing, them getting told off by the FA and then getting escorted by police off the plane. I was then congratulated by fellow passengers and given chocolates by the purser.

I still have the photos but can't figure out how to post them.

I've met some fantastic people around the bar in the A380, from a guy who worked on oil rigs in the jungle, to a fella whom flew helicopters into disaster zones for the UN, down to some guy who worked for Morrisons supermarket, every one of them made the experience special.

And there it is! Thanks edy4eva.

Note the mother just sitting there while they tormented the Passengers behind theM. See the blurred lights to show that we are landing!
