EK Upgrade policy
Hi,
I recently had a nice experience on EK: I got upgraded from Y Saver to J class, with being just a Blue member. On my reservation was another Blue EK member (we both got upgraded). The flight to EBB was 100% full. I'm not so familiar with EK, but on LH/LX they will upgrade first HON ("Platinum"), then Senator (Gold), then Frequent Traveller (Silver), and then partner airlines' frequent fliers, so I assume that's more or less the same with EK. Since we're Blue, they must have ran out on Golds and Silvers. How does EK take it from there?
On the return flight (overbooked) we didn't get upgraded (Y Flex), while other Y passengers did get (even) an onboard upgrade..
Where we just lucky they picked us, or is there a 'system'?

That noise you hear is me sticking my head in the oven and waiting for the flame to light...
