Why so busy?

My wife and I are currently wait listed for MEL - DXB on EK407 23/3. The flight is currently showing the following

EK 407 0 MEL
03/23/12 10:25 PM DXB
03/24/12 5:40 AM 77W
Daily
97% / 9m P2A0J0C0I0O0Y0E0R0W0M0B0U0K0H0Q0L0T0V0X0

While I do not expect we will get the upgrade it seems to be very busy, so early. I know there is the GP this weekend, but the Thursday and Saturday flights are still showing Y9 J9 F4

I would have thought an op up would be in the offering but with no space in J it looks unlikely

Am flying EK 407 on 4/4 and at the moment on Ek website its showing unavailable to buy tickets for economy and business class. Still showing 78 seats in Y on the MMB seat map but i would expect coming in to busy times?

I was on EK407 on Sunday and it was totally full in every class. I tend to choose the 777 ex-AKL because I expect cabins to be a bit emptier than the A380 but seems not to be the case!

Emirates are hoovering up money on the kangaroo run to/from Europe and they deserve it.

It seems like that particular flight is full because it is the only direct service (and with good timings) to Dubai. The other two flights go via KUL and SIN, so obviously less popular.

Just seen J2 has come up, but still no availability for an upgrade from Y to J. Now it seems op ups are done alphabetically I am buggered (my surname starts with S) even thought I have a full flex and apparently I/O status ;0)

iO gets priority over Golds. And since there can't be more than one or two iOs on a flight, aren't you quite likely to get that upgrade?
