Upgrade or Wait
Can anyone give me some advice on the YYZ-DXB Route, i am traveling on Aug 20th and can upgrade now online from Y-J, but im wondering if i should wait and see if i can get a free op-up.
Anyone have any experience with this route in the summer, i heard that it can be very busy and limited seats.
My status i sliver and i have about 250k+ points
Any advice?

You can always cancel your upgrade later (subject to availability of the same fare bucket originally purchased) at no cost. So definitely go for it now, and if it looks extremely full then cancel.
Even in peak periods some flights can be really full (weekends) whereas others can be just short of full. I have the worst luck on earth so my flights usually have a couple of spare seats. I did fly CDG-DXB a couple of years back in mid-July - Y was packed but nowhere near oversold, and J was only half full.

Upgrade availability on this route can be scant and you should take it when it is available. As a silver, your op-up chances aren't that bright considering that there are usually between 15-20golds on this route in Y.
One other factor you may want to consider is when are your miles expiring. If they are expiring soon and you don't have any trips planned before them (and there is no guarantee that you may be able to use them for an upgrade then as seats might not be available.), go ahead and use them to snag the upgrade. Using miles on the Emirates high Street is the worst use of miles and it'll pain you why didn't use them for the upgrade....

As a silver your odds are very low as it is. Getting upgrade availability on DXB-YYZ-DXB is a feat in itself.
