Why is CDG so expensive?

EK has published Ramadan sale fares - which are all quite good (but obviously Savers), except for Paris, which is AED 4,650. (Also there's some new AED 5 airport security fee).

Anyway, my question is, that despite the strange workings of airfares, why is it so expensive to fly to CDG? It's about 50% higher than all the other European destinations. Now this discrepancy doesn't exit from SE Asia for example, so why don't they want people living in DXB to fly to CDG?

I also don't think it's a matter of crazy loads. I flew around this time last year (though it wasn't Ramadan), and the flight wasn't oversold in Y and half empty in J (on the 380).

I should add that EY doesn't have this discrepancy either. All their fares to Europe are about AED 500 less than EK's.

Anyone with any crazy ideas? EK board has been pretty quiet lately.

Hi Ung,

Ok here is Crazy Idea though sounds logical to me.

PAR is the place to shop for all the fashion geeks + Euro Disney + its Paris man so this is high season because the expats in DXB will fly to cool off & have a holiday while Ramadan goes on in the Middle East & working hours are reduced along with the banking as well. CDG is indeed very popular so this could be the reason.

BTW I usually take EK 73 to go & EK 76 to come back in F once every month atleast & have found occupancy in premium cabins rather poor

Safe Flying

EGT

If you're interested in saving money (many people are), why not fly to BRU and take the Eurostar. Probably quicker to central Paris and a lot nicer, too.

You'd have to be silly to fly EK to CDG at their prices.

EK doesn't fly to BRU.

If I wanted to go to Paris I would ticket out of SIN - pay the same as I would out of DXB but to fly double the distance, and on a flex instead of a saver.

My point is that I don't see the justification in charging a small segment of your customers 50% extra to fly to a destination even when loads are not high. This is somewhat similar to Male, which can cost almost double what it costs to fly to CMB though flight time is same. But while Male is purely a 5* tourist destination, Paris isn't.

Paris is a terrible place to visit in August, so EK is doing you a favor by discouraging you to book there.

How thoughtful of them to care about their UAE based pax so much

If you look at it from a cost per miles basis, Etihad J from SIN costs the same as EK Y from DXB.
