My suitecase ruined

Hi
Recently i flew from PEK- DXB- VCE on Business. Everything was nice- even great- until i got my suitecase at Venice airport. Both handels of my brand new Delsey were broken, one even missing. I did file a complain with Emirati representative at the airport. He told me i have to do it by email to my local representative... so i did. I would like to know what is the procedure in this case, how long does it take to solve it... and what can i expect from Emirates. Will they compensate me? We are talking about 250 worth of suitecase that is now useless
Thank you!

I know this is not what you're looking for but isn't the suitcase under warranty? I had a mishap to my Samsonite stroller, 3 years after new (second handle base fell off). I got a replacement by mail within a couple of days of sending the photos.

Travel insurance?

When Emirates damaged my suitcase I claimed from my travel insurance and let them have the problem with reclaiming from Emirates (if they wanted to).

I bought it in USA and warranty does not apply. Even if it would... both handels are ripped out so replacement would not be possible

When my bag was damaged a few years ago with/by Emirates - returning to Dubai. I was told I'd only get a price based upon the weight of the suitcase (empty of course). Can't remember how much, but it wasn't much, even though I stated that the whole point these days is to make luggage lighter etc.

Update:

After a month i recived answer from Dubai. They are offering me half the amount of the value of my ruined suitecase- 125. What do you think... is that the most i can get? I'm still losing big on the value since brand new one cost me 250.

They should replace it. Had an issue with broken luggage with Etihad a few years ago and they just replaced the item. How is half the value supposed to help you?

Sorry to hear of your loss, however it is possible that the bag was damaged by ground service providers unrelated to Emirates between PEK & VCE. My personal recommendation take the € 125 and send a polite email to Emirates customer service and best case they will give you a few thousand miles.

look at the worst case scenario, you could be logging in to http://www.worldtracer.aero/filedsp/ek.htm <--- thats where you go to trace your bags when they end up in Timbuktu

I hope you find a satisfactory resolution to your problem. Please email [email protected] or call the number on the back of your skywards card { kidding, they don't want you to call so call +9714 316 7001 }. If you need help persuading them, PM me or anyone here, someone based in Dubai will try to help you out

As with most stuff in life, bags and airplane rides are bound by rules , in this case the 40 pages of rules "Conditions of Carriage, the ugly version" http://www.emirates.com/english/imag...233-194795.pdf

Another version of your problem and how it got resolved http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...oblem-sir.html
Remember, polite emails and smiles get more s**t done than, frowns and loud words.

It is the bag that needs to be replaced, not the handles.

Dang it! I bought my bag because of the handle. The advertisement said, 'buy handle get free bag'

Guys, you never get a bag refunded at book value even when traveling in F. I had it once in F and they offered a) book value but against receipt or b) half value without showing the receipt. The book value amount you claim is obviously your call. just my 2 cents.

I am not commenting on the ethics of the situation, but it is very easy to fashion/forge/create a receipt of the item showing the original price.

We had a similar situation in 2009 - might have been London Gatwick. We walked out of the airport with a brand new suitcase once we showed the EK ground staff the broken suitcase. No problem at all, no questions asked and absolutely no hassle!

No luck
They say it's all within Montreal convention and they are not willing to offer me higher amount or anything else.
Ahh well.... I'll take the 125 and pray nothing will happen' with my suitcase on my next flight!
