Being Loyal

It seems one is penalised for living in Australia, have been gold for 7 years out of the last 9 years of travelling from Australia to Europe on EK,now down to silver,EK has "moved the goal posts" far to much,so have moved to other options, just flew SQ to FRA from SYD,will not retain Siver this year.Being loyal to EK is worth 0 after so many years.

Thanks EK for nothing.

I don't see how those living in Australia are being specifically penalised. The requirements for Australians are the same as for others plus ( other than kiwi runs ) going to be decent length flights. 1 round trip to UK from Australia can get most of the requirements for retaining gold depending on class of travel

If you travelled twice a year on discount Y from Australia to Europe, I can hardly see how you could make status with any of the airlines you mentioned.. SQ don't give out any miles at all, LH will give you 50% but no lounge access unless you net 100k miles a year for *G (You could go with A3, might just about work out then..)

It is an insult to only offer 9000 tier miles from SYD to DUS on a saver fare costing$2439 when I can get the same amount of tier miles flying from SIN to DUS for $1340 on a saver fare.I've only ever flown EK all the previous years except for my last flight,I just feel that I don't count anymore for being loyal.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. The most expensive Y fares earn the same tier miles as the cheapest economy fares (normally). What EK has done is split this into two segments, so half the economy fares earn more miles than the other half.

Im a little confused.

If you earned 9000 points one way from SYD-DUS, that would imply that you were on a flex fare. A saver fare would only earn 4500

Exactly, I had a friend leave earlier this week - MEL-LHR-MEL and she was on a Saver Fare (approx AUD$2000) and her round trip Skywards miles was 9000. Although the system charged me the Flex fare basis in terms of upgrading her MEL-DXB leg. Didn't complain though...
