Rewards ARE possible... :)

So I've had a booking on Emirates (DXB-JFK-DXB) for 3 pax confirmed since mid February in Economy. I tried upgrading all 3 pax, both ways, on an almost weekly basis with no luck. Online/Phone resulted in the same - upgrades are not available on either sector...

Then a week ago - the return sector suddenly opened up online! Yes its the A380 so that might have been why, but I still got the upgrade online. Now it was just a matter of DXB-JFK (which is the 777, not the 380)...

I've been trying almost every day (since our trip is within a week) the past few days, but it just wasn't available...

Quite frustrated this morning (because business class seats are available for purchase - atleast 7 showing open), I called up EK/Skywards again, but they said it was not available. I then asked to be put on the waitlist for an upgrade - which I had no idea even existed before - and the lady took some time but did it. She then informed me that I would have to take all the miles from just ONE account (I am gold, the rest of the family is Silver) as only golds are allowed to waitlist. Although I didn't have enough miles for us all, I still accepted - no downside from where I stood.

An hour later, I checked online and it showed us confirmed in Economy and Waitlisted in Business....

Another hour later, it showed us confirmed it BOTH!! Now how do I get the miles for this??? --> Read On...

I called in again, explained that I had been waitlisted and now have been confirmed for a business upgrade for 3 pax, but that I wanted to process it with 3 seperate Skywards accounts (made no mention of the 'only gold')... bada bing bada bang, 15 minutes later -->DONE!

Apparently, Upgrades ARE possible!!

Ohhh --> my ticket said Skywards Saver (e-tix print outs), the Manage your booking showed miles for flex, and the upgrade was charged for flex... take that for thats worth

Congratulations on securing all the upgrades.

It is very common for them to release seats a couple of days before departure. Especially on busy routes where loads can be unpredictable, they hold seats for sale till the very last minute. Persistence always pays, though!
