Loan Miles?

Does anyone know if Skywards allows you to loan miles say for example I will earn 15500 miles from a round trip. If an upgrade award for the first sector of my journey was 22500, would i be able to buy the shortfall of 7000 and have a minus figure against my account assuming that the miles i owe will be returned to my skywards account after I complete my return journey anyway.

Hope that makes sense. I read on here someone else managed to do this.

Give it a try

Hi,

AFAIK this can be possibility. I repeat only a possibility incase you are a Gold member.

I see from your handle that you are Silver. If I were you then I would still call skwards and check with them.

Whats the harm in asking?? You have no nothing to loose. Go ehead & make that call and PLS post the result here as well.

Safe Flying

Just called them and they said they cannot put my account into minus even though I would get the account back in credit after completing the journey. I guess I can see it from their point of view. There is no gurantee that I will complete the flight so thats a risk to them.

Done that, but the shortfall was minimal (in the order of <1000 miles).
I'd doubt they would do that for a return trip, unless perhaps you're a high flyer gold?

On the other hand, 22500miles are worth 562.5USD, not an awful lot to pay for an upgrade?

Unfortunately I'm a lowly silver.

The upgrade sector is DXB-DAC and is only 4 hours so I can't really justify paying the full amount. However I will look at other avenues to upgrade using another family members miles. I have enough miles myself but I need to raise enough miles for my other half otherwise she will be stuck back in Y.

I don't understand the problem. Ok, you're in J and your other half is in Y. To me, that is nirvana!

Yes it can be done, I got a loan of miles to book a free return flight.
Here is the email from a very nice person from emirates.

one thing i must add, Never give up when they say no, It works

Thank you for your email. As per below, A total of 104500 miles is required for a return flight from Manchester to Bangkok with a Saver miles for the outbound flights and return in Flex when booked online as you benefit of a 5% online discount. You will earn the miles for your trip in February once you starts your flight and reach your destination and the same for the return. Therefore If you wish to use the miles you will earn from this trip toward the required 104500 miles for the trip in August you wish to book with your miles then this can only be done once you complete your February trip to enable the miles to be added to your account. As per skywards T&Cs, members are eligible to earn miles only once they reach their destination and not when they buy the ticket. We are willing to adjust your account with the missing miles to enable you to book online. Once your flights are booked we will then take the adjustment off , then your account will go into negative until you complete your trip in February and the miles will be earned so the balance will be adjusted to normal. If you happy with my feedback please revert back so we can adjust your account to enable you to book online straight away or wait until you complete your flights, earn the miles and then make the online booking ,Bearing in mind that flights availability for August is subject to change at any time. I hope this information is useful to you and thank you for your support of the Skywards programme. Should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Malct, who did you speak to or email? I would like to get in touch with them as all I've been told is a big no so far.

Sorry for the quick Reply. Regarding my loan miles, It took me over two weeks of getting rejection phone calls and emails from Emirates and they finally cracked.
I had the same thing happen when i was going to miss out on gold by a few days and after weeks i finally got gold.

Let us know how you get on
