Hi roadrunner, just wanted to post this so you understand better what is being made, and what is what.

http://i53.tinypic.com/3485ys2.jpg

- As you can see the original terminal One is also concourse # 1
- Terminal Two at the other side of the runway is just that ( with expansion )
- Terminal Three is also concourse # 2
- What we see being built now is concourse # 3

I hope this makes sense to you now.

Terminal Four is still a rumor.

Here's a pic Face81 took yesterday. The angle of this shot is great because we see both sides of the concourse.

If you look at the pics from the beginning of April we can notice there has been significant progress. The closer side of the concourse has two additional aluminum sections done, and the farther end has added two sections of glass. With this speed we should see the cladding of the concourse complete before the end of the year.

Construction might slow down in the hot summer months, and Ramadan just a little bit. Don't forget this is a government project that will be pushed hard for completion.

If they don't have enough space to installed double dual jetbridge at new concourse. If they doesn't do it. It will get a real problems for that. If the A380 will not able to delayed delivery.

A different angle with a better view of the center section. What we notice first is that the majority of cranes are gone that have been working on the metal skeleton of the concourse, so they can focus on the cladding, and interior fittings.

We have eleven glass sections completed, and seventeen more to go. If they have eight more months left in this year, and can do an average of three glass sections a month, we should see all the cladding finished this year. I'm sure they are well into working on the interior.

Dubai Airports to launch plans for Concourse 4 this year

Dubai International Airport expected to become the busiest in the world by 2015
This was an article in Gulf News yesterday. So we are going to get a concourse four, WOW. We will know all the details by the end of the year.

Dubai: Dubai Airports is planning to launch Concourse 4 at Dubai International Airport as part of its masterplan to be revealed this year, Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai Airports, told Gulf News.

Asked how soon the masterplan would be revealed, he said: "We are working on it at the moment. It's a very involved process. It could take several months. We are hoping it would be out this year."

Dubai Airports incorporates Dubai International and the eagerly-awaited Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International.

In focus: Arabian Travel Market

Griffiths said the masterplan would help the group reach its goal of 90 million passengers by 2018. "That's the whole idea," he said.

Dubai International currently has two concourses, and the third is due to open in late 2012.

Elaborating on the plans for Concourse 4, Griffiths told Gulf News: "Concourse 4 is a part of the masterplan discussion. So I can't attach an exact timeline to it. There is a lot of fairly intricate planning we have to do to sequence the construction beyond there.

"And once that happens, Emirates will then take over Concourses 1, 2 and 3 at Dubai International. That's the plan."

Growth plan

Dubai Airports on Tuesday announced its ten-year traffic forecast for Dubai International and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International (DWC) that projects international passenger and cargo traffic will increase at an average annual growth rate of 7.2 per cent and 6.7 per cent respectively, outperforming industry projections for average annual growth of five per cent globally.

By 2020 passenger numbers at Dubai International Airport will reach 98.5 million and cargo volumes will top 4.1 million tonnes, it said.

Capacity

In terms of Dubai International's capacity, which currently is 60 million passengers, it is expected to increase to "75 million passengers by the end of 2012," with the opening of Concourse 3, Griffiths said.

"We hope to take it up to about 90 million by 2018. That's the goal," Griffiths added.

He said Dubai International was forecast to become the world's busiest by 2015.

Currently it is the fourth busiest airport in the world in terms of international passenger traffic and fourth in international cargo, offering connections to more than 220 destinations by more than 150 airlines.

New focus for old Dubai Airport.

Just a few days ago we got news that their will be a concouse 4 specially built for other airlines, and EK would use concourse 1,2, and 3.

Looks like terminal 2 will also get some expansion as well.

All in all, looks like this thread will be around for a while. :)

Thanks to AppleMac rumor out is that DXBs new concourse 4 will be located around Cargo Village, and the Flower Center. At the moment it consists of the DNATA vehicle servicing area and various maintenance facilities.

Here's an old aerial shot taken by my friend Imre Solt back in 2009. The pic might be old, but you get a good idea with the red marker where the new concourse 4 should be located.

So effectively the old terminal 1 will go back to EK??

Can the runways handle all the extra aircraft movements for DXB to be the busiest airport in the world? I'm not in the industry, but if I remember right the ORDs, ATLs, and JFKs all have something around five runways each.

Some aerial shots taken out of an EK flight yesterday, they are not very clear, but you can at least see two taxi ways between T3, and the new concourse.

You can also see that the cladding is progressing.

Bit off topic, but what's the circular arrangement of buildings at the top right of the pic?

Also - any pictures of DWC?

Yes, from what the media is saying, thats the way it looks. We will know more most likely at the Dubai Air Show

Kind of makes sense cause its all a build up to JXB in the future

In reality how do you move every thing to the new airport when you have invested so much in the old airport. I can see DAA moving all the other airlines to JXB, then its over flow will organically grow their as years go by.

Remember DXB is functional 24 hours a day, that's the big difference.

Sooner, or later two runways will become a problem with this kind of expansion

The strain seems to already be showing. After having lived in Dubai for the past 5 years I can anecdotally report that for the past two months, flights that I or my colleagues have caught that were scheduled to arrive at DXB between about 11:30PM and 1:30 AM have often been subjected to stacking over the sea just off Sharjah for up to 75 minutes before being able to land. I have already started to adjust my travel plans (where possible) to avoid this landing window as I fear that this is the beginning of congestion problems.

Its DAFZA, the Airport Free Zone.

It's nice to see in this illustration that Special Studies, Land Use Plan, and most likely Other are coming into effect.

Now that we know where C4 will be I wonder what they will do with The Charlie parking stands ?

Here we can see and satellite view of the DXB/Charlie Parking Stands. If they are to build a new concourse just beside it, the taxi ways will still give access to the CPS. This is probably one of the rare airports where they park aircraft directly in the flight path of one of the runways as you can see. They just don't park the aircraft there, but load, and unload passengers as well.

I still believe the Airport Expo is a better location for the new concourse, since the Dubai Airshow will be moving to Dubai World Central, and they don't need it any more.
