I would be surprised if EK left the new DWC airport to all other airlines. DWC has a much better location, almost at the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. I bet EK would catch lots of business from EY if they moved there.

The quality of the photo is not very good, but you can still see how the cladding of the terminal building is progressing nicely. :)

Wikipedia quote:
Concourse 3 Concourse 3 will be connected to the two major public levels of Terminal 3 via an automated people mover (APM) in addition to the vehicular and baggage handling system utility tunnels for further transfer. The building, which follows the characteristic shape of Concourse 2, will be 645 m (2,116 ft) long, 90 m (300 ft) wide and 42 m (138 ft) high in the centre from the apron level, and will accommodate 20 aircraft stands, of which 18 will be exclusively for the Airbus A380-800, and 2 for the Boeing 777.[99][100] The concourse will include one 4 star hotel and one 5 star hotel, first and business class lounges, and duty-free areas. The total built-up area will be 528,000 m2 (5,680,000 sq ft).[101] Construction began in early 2008, and is expected to be completed by late 2011, handling an additional increase15 million passengers a year bringing the total terminals capacity to 43 million, and the entire airport's to over 80 million passengers annually |
Good news on the new F and J lounges. Hopefully this relieves the pressure on the overcrowded J lounge in T3/C2.

Here's another pic of the center part of the T3 concourse. Looks like there will be wide open spaces, with big people moving elevators like terminal three there.
I wonder if they will have the same water feature on the wall to ? The lounges should also be close to this part of the terminal. http://i52.tinypic.com/73j61t.jpg |

I think this concourse will be even better than terminal 3. :) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programme...ck/9443769.stm |
Good feature, a working link can be found here

Some pictures from the other side of the terminal.
You can notice that this side is a little behind the other side by just looking at the glass section's. This side has about three glass sections that are complete, where the other side of the terminal has six complete glass sections on each side. You can also notice the yellow insulation, then they put the black water proofing before they finish it off with the silver/gray aluminum cladding. Slowly, but surely both sides will meet in the middle. I'll try to get some interior pics for you guys. http://i52.tinypic.com/313m3w5.jpg http://i51.tinypic.com/2ck6dh.jpg |
I went through T3 the first week that it opened and thought it was amazing. Gradually, over the next 2 years, it is already as bad as T1 was with conjestion. This is clearly a postive thing for Dubai however does not help us in the short term. Although the new concourse due to open in 2012 will apparently assist, I doubt it. We may have one year before the same happens and conjestion occurs. I must say, at the time I thought the Maktoum International 5 lane run-way (in addition to DXB) was mad, but given the loads etc, it is looking like a masterstroke. |
Here's what worries me. Why is the F lounge on the level below the J lounge? It looks like it's getting narrower at the top, so does this mean the F lounge will be wider than the J lounge?
They seem to be making the same mistake as they did with T3, which is to have the lounges spanning the entire length of the terminal. And Brian LaBelle mentioned something about the lounge for Silvers moving to the new concourse, any idea where that's going to be? |
I'm sure they're starting to think out side the box while this terminal is still in the building phase.
They still have a chance to figure out the problem, and make the lounges much larger than originally planned. We know the lounges will be locate in the middle/top section of the concourse. They should just raise the middle part a few more floors, but in an aesthetic way so it looks good from the out side, but in side they can add an extra lets say 50,000 m2 so they never have the same problem in this terminal. The elevator shafts are already located in that area, all they have to do is go up a little more. The same thing can be done in T3, realistically that's the easiest way to solve the problem cause you can't go down, nor left, or right. Where else could they add space, any idea guys ? My two cents worth. |
Here you can see where the people mover will be located in the new concourse that will transport people to T3 under ground through a tunnel that was already built while they were building T3.
I can also predict a lot of congestion at passport control once the people mover, and new concourse goes into effect. They will share logistics such as passport control, and baggage claim which I think will be crazy once the airport hits 80 million pax/year. http://i56.tinypic.com/29qjyux.jpg |
Passport control is already stupid crazy though I think they rarely operate all counters. And the Fast track is congested and poorly managed!
