ATC feed on entertainment system
Some of you may know that United airlines, which is quite a lousy airline otherwise, has one unique feature on its entertainment system not offered by any other carrier. At the discretion of the Captain, the ATC feed aircraft can be braodcast to PAX on what is known as channel 9
Emirates is know a market leader in IFE I would be interested to whether and if you FFs would be interested in having this feature on ICE ? I have quite enjoyed it on UA, and would like to see it on EK especially given the diversity and range of EK as a global airline
Channel 9 is very popular among UA FF PAX see their thread on UA Mileage Plus for how lively the discussion is

Good idea
Great! I knew at least some of us aviation junkies would love this If more people post we could jointly write to EK to make this happen! It is a zero cost thing

I had a Radio that picked up ATC many years ago, I wonder if anyone use to take them on to planes and listen while in flight!! Guess they would get into trouble if caught.
Google earth is a great tool, use it for checking out holiday detinations and my last holiday was to a place in thailand called Bangsaen. Its where all the Time people go for weekends and only 40 mins from Bangkok.
Google earth can be used with Open ATC.

A web site where you can listen live a lot of airports, but sorry DXB is not covered. I started listening IST though.

PS. The only time I used this on United was on an SFO-LHR flight about 10 years ago. I though it sounded quite informal. Eg. :-
ATC - 'UAXXX, cleared for take off. There's a ZZZ flight due to cross in front of you, so please get a move on'
UAXXX - 'UAXXX, we're rolling, we'll keep an eye out for him'
Cheers,
Rick
