upgrading at the Gate

Just a quick question

If i was 3000 miles short of a upgrade to Business at Check in and the flight that i was taking was going to give me 3000 miles, would the miles be crtedited to my account once i get to the gate?

Thank you

The miles arent normally credited until you complete one half of the journey.

Eg, LHR-DXB-SYD. The miles would be credited to the account once you reach Sydney.

So the miles wont be on the account by the time you reach the gate.

However, you can purchase miles on the Skywards website or over the phonethru the call centre.

Thank you for your reply

The flight will be the last leg of the Journey.

It would then probably be easier just to buy 3000 miles on the skywards website. Its instant and problem free. It'll cost you USD 75

I've had success being "loaned" the miles if you are sure to make them back on the flight that you are upgrading.

I had something like 47,000 and wanted to upgrade DXB-BNE-AKL, which would net me something in the order of 18,000. So, I called Skywards and they let me keep a negative balance as I would go positive by taking the flight.

You might want to try calling and just asking...

You don't need to be checked in! I did it about 3 weeks before my flight. As long as the upgraded flight itself will put you over positive again, then it should be fine.

What is the max amount allowed in this 'loan' of miles?
