What you've got there is expertflyer, not the ek website. It's always possible to pick a seat during online check in. Sure, they pre-assign you a window/ aisle based on preference automatically, but you can change it both online and at the airport.

Have never let the system choose one for me. Don't like the unpredictability and while not always accurate, I like looking at the seat-map 24-hrs prior to departure to get a feel for the load...

Did you make the original flight booking via the EK website? I always do and select a seat well beforehand, and the system sends you an email confirming the seat request.

I never request specific seats. However its not about my choice of seat, never care as long as its an aisle seat. This thread is about auto seat assignment without being presented a choice. Either a bug on the OLCI page or a fluke.
