Question regarding DXB transit time

Hello Folks,

I am presently in Europe and I see EK offering quite attractive fares to my place of work from my home town (CCU). My mother is expected to come to visit me for 1 month, but the problem is that there is a connecting time of about 10 hrs in DXB and that too from midnight till 9Am ..
Since I guess many of you folks frequently travelling EK may be facing this and have some good ideas about how to spend it..
Is there some decent place to rest in DXB which EK provides for elderly pax (my mom is >53yrs) ?? Does EK give any kind of facility where she can rest ??
Any lounge access possible though she has no status with EK ??

Request some advise, since I don't want her to spend 8-9 hrs without any decent place to rest in..

Thanks
Abhi

If you book certain fare classes, EK will provide a hotel in Dubai if the connection time is over 8 hours (in economy). As long as that is the minimum connection time.

Do a search on here for the exact classes, I can't remember of the top of my head.

And 53 is not really elderly!

Cheers,
Rick

>53 elderly? I am suddenly feeling ancient - at 55 and with my wife and I having a baby on the way I hope that by > you were being polite about a lady's age and that she is much older and truly elderly... ;-)
There are many options for long stays at DXB and a search of these threads will throw up heaps of useful information and tips - some of it very recent.

Economy Classes N, M, E, W and Y qualify for the long stopover package. I think you will have to order over the phone or via a travel agent to know the class before you buy.

Thanks for the replies..
I did not mean to say that >53 = elderly but because of the reason that she has never travelled internationally and she will be travelling alone with a long stopover if we chose this connection..
@mrtdxb -- Apologies, if you felt more old or 'ancient' because of this ..That was not the intention at all..

I see in the net, that this class is booking class V so I guess it does not qualify for the long stopover package..

Will check this forum in more details ..

Thanks everyone..
Cheers

Anyway to see the price if I take a higher class ? I mean when I try online, I get the lowest available fare for that route, I select that or some other one and then it shows the route etc, but where do I find the class of travel.. its just given Economy everywhere..
It shows Economy saver fares, so there are which class ??
Any way to see the farer for a particular class like those mentioned above ??

The long transit hours may be due the fact that you are flying EK out of CCU. Silly as it may seem, if you somehow get her to fly out of BOM on EK, you can minimize the connection time as there are several flights to DXB through out the day. If you have a friend or relative in BOM, it may help a bit.

It may be bit too much for someone on their 1st international to pass 10 hrs alone. You can probably buy her the Marhaba service at T1. There will be some Indian food to be had and good seats to rest on.

In my opinion, STPC even if you get one, is lot of work. Immigration, transfer, hotel check-in, checkout, security, immigration.. whew...

Infact, I am considering flying from delhi if I dont get a viable option from CCU..Since we hv relatives in delhi, she can be there till early morning when the flight for DXB is..
Any idea, whts the cost of the marhaba service ?? Can we buy it while booking the tickets ??

Hi,

I saw in some other post that EK offers Millennium Airport Hotel for Y for specific classes.. Now we are getting very attractive fares from CCU and hence if possible want to avoid DEL/ BOM connection..
Is is possible to buy this transit hotel stay voucher directly from EK ??
Or any advise for any lounge pass we can buy from EK with the tickets..
I am suspecting that if I go and buy the tickets in the higher Y classes, the difference would be much more ?

Any advise is appreciated,

thanks
Abhi
