Ok so I will be taking my return flight from ISB to DTW in month or so and I have a short layover in AUH. I want to spend a week in AUH with my family so I need to know if its possible to leave ISB a week earlier to AUH and then continue my flight as it originally was from Abu Dhabi while skipping out in the ISB-AUH flight? Please let me know if its possible. My travel agent said changing the ticket would cost $300 and a flight to AUH from ISB is only $100!!

Which airline is this? Etihad doesn't fly to Detroit.
It doesn't matter how much the ISB-AUH flight costs, as they won't let you on to your ORD/ JFK flight if you miss the first leg. What you could do is fly to Abu Dhabi and back, and then take your flight.

Welcome to Flyertalk dy2007
I assume you are travelling with Etihad Airways ISB-AUH-ORD/JFK and then onwards to DTW with another airline. The reply of Ung1 is an excellent idea. You could also try the Etihad Airways forum (where this thread should really be!).
