Angry EK fare differences Outbound/Inbound

Can anyone tell me why the fare is so different for the same flight numbers depending on where the journey starts.

For example booking through the EK website BHX-DAC-BHX, you can get fares for circa Ł575 with a 4 month return date. However if you try and book DAC-BHX-DAC, the fare comes in at $1720 (Ł1060), even using the same flight numbers as on the BHX-DAC-BHX route, yet only a few miles away CCU-BHX-CCU you can get a fare for Ł500, why the extortionate rates out of DAC, its not as if there is a shortage of seats??

Welcome to FT ekflyer1

Do you understand basic economics?

To maximise revenue airlines charge what each market will bear. If they can get away with charging some customers much more than others they will.

Well spoken Kiwi Flyer. It all comes down to different price elasticity of demand.

EKflyer1, did you consider going ex CCU instead of DAC? If not because it is complicated and you rather pay the higher fare then you have your answer, they charge a higher price because they can and they are in this business to make money. Best thing you can do then I guess is to look for a different carrier with a better price maybe?

Aye and those us based in the UAE pay through the nose for that reason.

My parents can fly Glasgow - Auckland or Glasgow - Sydney with Emirates via Dubai for less than I pay for the Dubai - Auckland or Sydney leg.

Not only do we pay through the nose but now we are also giving them a pint of blood. There has been a big increase in ticket prices but this can be put down to exchange rate differences as well as the captive audience syndrome.
