Missed flight

What is a reasonable penalty for showing up late for LY flight with a G-class ticket. ELAL wants to charge as much as the original ticket cost to rebook on the next available flight.
I know the ticket was discounted and not flexible- but that seems steep.

I dont know the T&Cs of LYs 'G'. But a couple of weeks ago I had a run in with Security at check-in and the sercurity stickers were removed from my PP and bags = no flying for me. I figured Id pay COs $25 and fly out on the night flight instead. Went over to the sales counter and was informed that the tkt I purchased didnt allow for anything but travel on what I booked. If I wanted to go on the night flight that Id have to pony up the full cost of a new 1 way tkt.

So my pt is if the T&Cs on your 'G' is like those that were on mine then LY is in its rights to charge whatever they want to. I got lucky that not only was my CO flight 3 hrs delayed and I had to return the car way before that so I had time on my side. Eventually by the time I found out about having to purchase a whole new tkt, there was a change in shift of the security crew and I simply went thru it a second time and took my original planned flight.
