Using AA Miles to Fly LY

Remember unlike DL you can mixand match. With DL you Must fly LY both ways. With AA you can use OW partners in conjunction with LY, so it can be say an AA/BA to TLV and Ly back or even AA to Europe and LY into TLV

Actually IMHO the question does belong in AA since it is the AA members who would have the experience with how easy it is to redeem AA miles for LY flights. You'd call AA to reserve, not LY.

I was able to get a single seat for March 2008 in Business LAX-TLV. I kept calling AA 329 days before the date I wanted . The return was only available LY to JFK connecting with AA to LAX.
I wanted First Class - but it was never available on LY with AA mils in any combination.

I just booked LY tickets from TLV - BER using Delta miles. I could have used AA miles but they were 40K vs. 30K so I used the Delta. I checked different dates - no problem whatsoever in availability in May.

I just booked in business July 4 028 from Newark and July 23 031 to JFK with 135K AA points. no problem with those dates at all.
Chose to go early in July because from July 15 to mid-August was nothing.
With Swiss leaving one world, choices slimmed down considerably. Couldn't even get those dates on Turkish.
