I wonder what LY would give for BA Gold, especially at a time when most of their customers have defected to BA in the last 1-2 years. I'm one of them!

I have just had a status match from LH Senator (8 years) to LY Gold.
However they only gave me 6 months and want a high number of points by Sept.
Will fly LY on Wed for the first time in years and unless it is really great I don't think I will stay with them.
With LH you get BC points even with a discounted BC, not so with LY also 100,000 miles in 1 year is good for 2 years Sen. In any case I'm only 1 requalification away from Senator for life.
LY needs to get more competative they are still acting like a state run company.

I did it through my TA.
LY wanted a copy of my flight details and miles for the last year or so.
Actually this is an improvement as they never seemed interested before.
Pity is that it is such a poor program compared to M&L.

LY will status match you if you are a Gold member on another airline based on your travel patterns.
But as mentioned here earlier it will be for 6 months, in which you will need to earn half the yearly qualifying miles (900) and once you do your status will be renewed for an extra year.
So all in all, not a bad deal as you can get Gold status for 18 month by accumulation 900 points in 6 months.

You will need to join BMI Diamond Club off course (take you 2 minutes online) and then fax them proof of your status.
Are you a GL?

As to the BMI Diamond Club, the program is excellent! simply because of what they call Miles+Cash redemptions.
The standard full miles redemptions on BMI are nothing special, but the Miles+cash program allows you to redeem your miles on any Star alliance airline (when available of course, and must be done vie BMI's call center) for a very reasonable number of miles plus cash (plus taxes of course...).
For example a Miles+cash booking to anywhere in the US in Business would cost 37,500 miles+£230 in cash.
or 50,000 miles for First.
Of course as a Gold BMI card holder you are a Gold Star Alliance member (equivalent to LH Senator) and as such will get access to all Star Alliance lounges etc...

However all this said, do not underestimate the difference between the 2 airlines or should i say between the airline and the other mode of transport!
I would still prefer indirect with BA to direct with LY just without the security crap.
Personally i think that LY points system sucks - different points depending on the class of ticket as opposed to BA's straight tier points depending on cabin?! BA much simpler to count and stay on top of.

I just status matched 3 months ago from BA Gold to LY Gold with no problems. I used to fly thru LHR on all longhaul and spend a few days each time at UK office but with LHR security and as a result BA losing my bags (still not recovered) i gave up and have started flying LY direct whenever possible.

I'm already LY GL and during my next trip I should qualify for both TG *A Gold and AA OW Plat the hard way. Anyone know if LY would status match to PL?

I status matched from LH Gold to LY GL (same information as above), all you need to do is call the customer service of ELAL (through the regular club number published on the web) and talk to them. They were very nice and provided me with the LY GL card within days.
