Why are LY001 and LY008 going to be delayed?
I just saw this message on the LY website, does anyone know why the delay? Is an a/c missing int he schedule?
Flight LY001 from Tel Aviv to New York that was scheduled to depart at 01:00 am on April 15 , has been delayed. The flight will depart at 19:10 pm on April 15.
Flight LY008 from New York to Tel Aviv that was scheduled to depart at 23:50 pm on April 15, has been delayed. The flight number has been changed to LY012 and will depart at 02:00 am New York local time on April 16.

I dont know the exact reason. But maybe it has to due with the fact that a LY 747 was hit by a Tow at CDG this morning and that flight and plane instead of leaving today 4/13 will leave on Sun 4/15, due to having to be inspected and posssibly repaired and probably due to the Shabbath arrival if it did in fact depart today after everything was given the OK, it was passed on to Sun.
So maybe that plane was suppose to to come in from CDG and go out on 4/15 to JFK and return back on 4/16 to TLV. Or maybe it was suppose to be used for another Destination and instead they are using the Plane from the Flights you mentioned and thusly the flights you had in question will be delayed awaiting other Equipment that has to arrive.

They have 2 flights leaving around midnight from Israel, one departs JFK in the afternoon and one indeed departs JFK at night after a long layover on the ground. It appears they can afford this in the low seasons. I don't think this is the every day setup.

I'm surprised they wouldn't protect 001 to JFK -- their most important flight -- and mess up another one instead. I have some family coming in on tomorrow's, essentially losing a whole day.

Well, thay have messed up other flights! I was scheduled to fly to New York on Monday's 007 at 10:40, which was 'delayed' to the evening. I had an important meeting in New York and told EL AL they had better find me a solution. They go me onto the (delayed) 001 leaving at 10:00, only 40 minutes earlier than I was meant to go originally. I presume that being a PL and not on the cheapest of tickets probably helped, but I was impressed at how well they handled the situation.
