Upgrades probabilities

In which flight (TLV-NYC) do I have a higher upgrade probability:
  • LY 027 to EWR on a 747-400
  • LY 001 to JFK on a 747-400

Any inputs are welcome - Thanks!

The 001 is probably a more popular flight, and therefore less chance of an upgrade. But if you give me the dates you are thinking of (you can PM me if you prefer), I will check flight status for you.

cafri - if that's your own seat-map creation then I say well done! It's really neat.

I have a question, though. The key tool lets you see the pitch (distance between seats) and how different it is for various seating sections. Other than the first, biz and coach distinctions, are there any differences in seat widths?

027 and 001 upgrades on a saturday or sunday nite are both improbable.
your only secure chance of an upgrade is Tuesday or Wednesday night - but it of course depends on the class of your ticket and your points in the last 12 months.

Sometimes it is better not to know. Take tomorrow evening. The chances of me being upgraded to HKG are slim to nil. But until I get the boarding card I can always hope. However if I call and ask the ray of hope is dashed.

We travel in different crowds.

I need that 1400 to send the kids to the US in the summer.

There are a few tools you can use.
One of them is expertflyer, but you have to pay for this one.
If you ever need to check anything, feel free to PM me, and I will happily check for you.

Great site
but I found out that PL's can get some things that are not shown in
expertflyer.

expertflyer doesn't tell you how many are WL for the upgrade.
it tells you how many palces are left in any given class.
it can help a little about the probabilty

Correct.
Another thing is you cant see the seat map for LY, unlike with BA and other airlines where one can see which seats are occupied, which seats are blocked, which seats are kept for premium etc...

Well I was not upgraded, they said business was full. They did block the seat next to me so that was good.

When you pay the 1400 points to be upgraded, do you earn Matmid points on that upgraded class or on the class you purchased? I know that the 'last minute' cheap upgrades are for the class purchased but what about that expensive one?

Well it wasn't full when I checked on Friday for you, how long before the flight did you arrive at the airport?

Points will be credited as per your original booking.
I must say though it has happened to me in the past that they have credited me with points for the upgraded class, but this was a mistake and I wouldnt count on it.
