TLV - JFK Upgrade Y to C
looking for advice and experience:
I'm flying on the day flight, TLV to JFK in June on a 777 (in an upgrade-able class).
What are the chances for a last minute upgrade?
My alternative is paying X 3 points and getting a confirmed upgrade.

Depends where you are on the points list and whether seats are available. 777 business class has less seats than 747 and even if a seat or
two are open, El Al is likely to assign them to crew members, rather than upgrading. I've had a number of experiences like that - number one on the list, and close, but no cigar. Matmid points are not worth much anymore...

Which day flight are your flying on (flight number)? (there are differences in terms of demand for each flight during the day, and it is less likely to get upgraded if it's usually a busy flight, hence it's more risky to rely on a last minute upgrade)

Well done in my opinion. I don't think your chances were good (in my experience r class tickets to JFK in summer almost always gone couple of weeks before the flights, especially in the busy flights of LY1 and LY7).

Update..
So....
R was sold out for the week before the flight.
On the day of the flight there was C and F availability. In the lounge it seemed there was no one on the UG list.
There were a couple of free seats on the flight.
Since my seat was 10A I'm happy that I didn't wait for the last minute upgrade.
