El Al Boston-Tel Aviv

I have flown the El Al Boston Tel Aviv route twice. They started out with a remodeled 767–300 with a very good business class lie flat seat. It was a spare but reasonable, great connection. From New England being able to hop on in Boston and hop off in Tel Aviv is a big gift. Especially since you don't have to go through JFK or Newark! But since the first weeks they've been substituting a Spanish Prestige wet lease plane using a completely unremodeled 767 with the business class that shows what people thought business class should be 35 years ago. I understand from other threads that it's an old Polish plane. It looks it and feels it. I'd be happy to hear other people's experiences with this deal from El Al. And by the way no refund even though they promised lie flat.

Welcome to FlyerTalk BostonFlyer!

Sounds like a potentially great route is being destroyed by poor hard product.

That sounds like a description of almost every ELAL route.

Flew one of these last August from London back to TLV. The business class flight sucked. ( not a word I usually use online) The seat was horrendous and the service was worse. When I had to "straighten my seat" for landing the FA had to remove the cushions and manually force the seat to the upright position. Also, I'm American so I can understand heavily accented/mispronounced English. I do not know how the Israelis who spoke English managed and those who spoke only Hebrew--they just had to sit, as there were no translations of any of the announcement. G-d forbid there had been an emergency.

I am not surprised by EL Al's refusal to provide any type of full refund- as you did take the flight and got to your destination- but they could issue you some good will vouchers or partial credit.
You could have done a charge back via your credit card (atleast in some countries).
48.59 % of airline charge backs that are sent regarding airlines- are for "Services Not Provided"- that doesn't mean that everyone is successful.

If you did do one, the airline would call you back- probably give you some type of credit or what not.

Its easier to say no to the customer then it is to their bank.

What's happening with Boston?

I recently heard that El Al has leased planes/crews from Privilege and EuroAtlantic for the Boston flights due to labor disputes. Does anyone know if that's still the case or if they're back to using El Al planes and crew? I chose my seats when I purchased the tickets back in September and now wonder if we'll be on the same plane that I chose seats from.
