LY and AA shrink codeshare agreement
Starting October 23rd, only tickets via Europe could be purchased...

I'll start by speculating this means AA is going to start more nonstops to TLV from the USA.

End of LY and AA partnership
Who is LY going to partner with now? http://loyaltylobby.com/2014/09/24/a...tober-31-2014/

Much related to what I posted here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/el-al...agreement.html) a few days ago. Maybe the threads should be merged?
As per the article I brought in the thread I started, LY will connect to VX/AS/B6 inside the US. However it is unknown yet whether they'll start code sharing and/or a FF agreement, or just allow interlining and purchasing combined tickets as is also now allowed. |
A very sad day for AAdvantage members based in TLV. :(
Not that I think LY business class product is great, but LY was almost the only option to use miles going east to Asia and the South Pacific given the AAdvantage routing rules. Now it's basically RJ, and it all comes down to TLV-AMM availability which I don't think is too great. I wonder if AA will make an exception to it's routing rules because of the rather unique situation TLV is at. Maybe reallocating Israel as part of Europe so one could use IB/BA/AB/AY. Though, that would mean giving up on some great redemption prices to the east. In the last two months alone I used AAdvantage miles to book LY awards for friends and family to BOM, BKK, HKG and PEK. On the earning side, btw, LY was always using W fare bucket for special sales as discount economy fare bucket. AAdvantage classified W as regular economy fare bucket which meant 100% miles accrual. Great sweet spot, I think, but now it's gone. |
This totally screws up my earning/burning strategies. Do you think it's possible to get LY flights credited earlier this year to AA re-credited to LY?

REally unsurprising given that AA now flies to TLV as USAir.
It is a shame though, I burned far more AA miles on LY than anything else. |
Bummer. At least I can see my kids a few last times next year using AA miles.

Rumors now that American will be starting Mia and Jfk to Tlv....

Does LY need a US based carrier?

To cover SFO/SEA/PDX/BOS (tech-savvy areas with a lot of israelis/israeli business connections). To cover MIA (large jewish population). And to cover all the various tourist destinations. From LY's point of view, it's better to be the one operating the trans-atlantic leg. |
Thanks, would any US carrier sign a FFP with them? AS?

And there goes my plan to fly TLV-BKK in C on LY using AA miles next year!
What do I do with all my AA miles that I saved up, specifically for that purpose?? |
