i am united gold and was offered a match from elal so i wanted to know if it is worth to fly elal as chance of upgrade is better
in order to qualify for an upgrade, you need:
1. purchase an expensive economy ticket (m,s,y)
2. be silver/gold/platinum/top platinum
3. and the most significant part, that i think you dont qualify for: having at least 1000 points from ElAl flights in the past 12 months.
as for (3) above - from my memory, when i read details about status match promotion that ElAl had , you still needed to have 1000 points in the last 12 months in order to be on the upgrade list.
upgrades on the night flights are much more difficult than the day time flights.
