Easyjet have forced BA to drop their Liverpool - Belfast service. Easyjet fly to Belfast International and started on the route two years ago from nothing.
No frills on short routes is the way ahead it appears especially when the customer is paying.

EasyJet is a remarkable story....and while it is a "no-frills" airline, it is not strictly speaking a "low fares" airline...just try their web site for fares on the prime commuter flights between (eg) Edinburgh and London (e.g. 6:30am depart, 6pm return)....as opposed to say a 10am depart, 9pm return....
The reason I make this point is that whilst EasyJet made a loss in the last 6 mth period (UK companies don't report quarterly), they are building their market position and customer loyalty and even driving the majors off some routes entirely....
Not to say they can jack their fares up too much down the line, but with their low cost base, they don't have to increase them by much to make money....
Oh, and taking over 80% of bookings over the net is one helluva ECOmmerce business !

Indeed!

When EasyJet first launched, it thundered down the runway and climbed steeply, growing at more than 80 per cent a year.
But can the airline leave its winter losses behind and cruise into profit?
"Our business is seasonal," EasyJet's chief executive Ray Webster told me.
That might explain why EasyJet's first results since flotation seem so disappointing: a £7 million loss.
Not according to Webster. He said: "Each year that we've operated, our first-half has always been unprofitable.
"We make our profits in the second half, in keeping with the very strong summer demand we have in Europe."
He prefers `low-cost' rather than `budget' as a description for EasyJet.

If easyjet aren't making money then Go and Buzz can't be either. (they seem to be wasting more money on advertising than the High Cost alternatives)
Buzz is rumoured to be looking for a saviour.
consolidation is this market should be happening soon.
