Southend runway length problem

Southend's "relatively short" 6,089 ft / 1,856m runway, together with uncooperative winds ...
meant that five people (some reports say six) needed to deplane to allow the EasyJet A319 take off

Southend usually has wind from the same direction which is why the runway is built the way it is.
