Dollar MCO
Anyone have a recent experience there?
I attempted to rent from them last July and upon arriving at the counter my rate was much higher than my reservation. I even pulled out my laptop to show the agent the confirmation, but she wouldn't do anything about it until I said I was leaving. She agreed to change it, and then put a new agreement in front of me to sign with a higher rate than the first one. The third try was close enough (although still higher) to my quoted rate and I signed. She gave me a slip with a single scratch on both the front and rear bumpers of a Caliber, which I verbally confirmed.
I got out to the garage and found a car with more marks from suitcases on the rear bumper than I had ever seen on a car and a front bumper that looked like it had been clawed horizontally by an animal. I went back and asked for a different car, and got a PT Cruiser with only 7000 miles on it. Again with the same "one scratch on the front and one on the rear" spiel, but the rear bumper on this one was worse than the Caliber and the grille was missing a couple large patches of paint. I went back and canceled the contract then hopped on the waiting Thrifty shuttle (I know they're the same company, but I've had much better luck with Thrifty MCO since).
My only other experience with them was earlier last year at Dollar SFO, where the only strange thing was when the agent pulled out a calculator saying he "wanted to double check my age" despite my having already stated that I was 22 when asked, and the red stripe across my license reading "Age 21 in 2006." To their credit, my Sebring convertible was nearly new and I was happy overall.
My corporate code for Thrifty is apparently no longer valid, but my Dollar one works. Think I'm safe giving Dollar another shot?
