Seating assignment - UA
Hi, to begin I am a high level quadriplegic. I have flown several times since my injury, but not in recent years. I will be requiring airport personnel assistance to transfer from my chair-aisle chair-plane seat. Currently we are assigned the bulkhead seats, aisle and middle seat. Is there a policy that restricts one to only being assigned the aisle seat if they need assistance with transferring? The reason I ask is that the window seat would provide more privacy regarding cathing, as well as not causing the 2 other passengers to climb over me if I'm in the aisle seat. It is a 6 hour flight. My only concern is for those doing the lifting, as I realize transferring to a window seat is far more difficult than to an aisle seat. I contacted United, and the women I spoke to said that since I need assistance with transferring, I must be assigned the aisle seat. I wasn't sure if this was her answer, or policy.

Same here - I fly UA a fair amount, and have never heard that rule. But like DeafFlyer, I also manage to get my own self from the aisle seat to the window. I'd call back and ask someone else. Did you specifically request to talk to the disability people or was this a random agent?
