Connection Time In Memphi

I foolishly booked a flight with a connection in Memphis for tomorrow. I just noticed that we have only 37 minutes to make the connection. I have to use either a wheelchair provided by the airport or my own mobility cart. If I wait for a wheelchair I have to wait until the plane is completely empty. When I did that last week it took 35 minutes before the wheelchair arrived. If I wait for my mobility scooter it takes about 45 minutes.

I have decided to check my scooter through to my destination city, and pray that a wheelchair can arrive earlier than my normal experience. I am upset because I called Delta and asked about the connection time. I was told that if I miss my connection Delta will not be responsible because I should have known better than to accept an itinerary with a 37 minute connection time. So if I miss the flight, and it is the last flight of the night, I will have to spend the night in Memphis at my expense and get a flight out the next morning, and I will have to pay the difference between the current fare and the fare charged on the date of the flight. Delta will, however, waive the change fee.

Delta decided that 37 minutes in Memphis was a "legal" window. They did not state anywhere on their web site that disabled passengers needed to allow for more time and that they would not be responsible for disabled passengers who missed the connecting flight because of the disability.

I recognize that I should have paid better attention to the connection time, but I have never booked an itinerary that had less than a one hour connection time. I did not even know it was legal to create an itinerary with less than 60 minutes.

Do you think that Delta can legally force me to pay for my own hotel, meals and the extra money for a flight the following morning because I booked a legal itinerary with them and did not recognize that I needed to allow extra time for my connection?

I have been all over their web site and can find nothing establishing this rule, but I have called the Medallion line several times, and everyone there insists that Delta will have no obligation to me if I miss the connecting flight unless the arriving flight is delayed by something other than a weather-related problem.

Does anyone have any information or input. I am very unhappy with Delta. We fly about 60,000 miles/year, all of them with Delta. I am shocked by this situation, which I believe is not my fault.

I'm in agreement with you. If they're going to offer such a tight connection, there should be some way to warn those who will not be able to use it, that they should choose another itinerary.
