I've been invited to a BYOB Syrian restaurant. Other than it will be Syrian food, I have no idea what is on the menu.
Can someone recommend a wine (style, not necessarily the exact bottle) that would go well with this type of food?
I have a bottle of Vinho Verde that I picked up from a quinta we visited this fall, near Barcelos. I'm not sure if that would be an good choice.
Either red or white wine would be fine.
Thanks!!

I'd bring a syrah and a sauvignon blanc (or the vinho verde, or another lighter white). You could end up eating lamb, beef, vegetables, it could be many things. You won't be having roast pork.

Ch. Musar is the quintessential wine of that region, presumably optimized for the cuisine over the centuries. See http://www.chateaumusar.com.lb/english/cave.aspx
If you want a similar style (Musar is hard to get in the US, maybe related to the trade embargoes against Syria in some years), try a moderate Bordeaux.
