Counting wine, well over €1000 pp on some customer dinners including one in Stockholm that had a 20,000Kr bottle of wine. This restaurant is in the Guiness book of records for the best wine collection in the world!

Counting hookers? Let's not go there!

No need to remember the $$$$$ spent... suffice it to say that with wine all these were well into four digit category.... whats important is that they were all very memorable meals:

- Alain Ducasse in New York (back when he was at the Essex House)
- The Fat Duck in London
- Steirereck in Vienna
- Trio Restaurant in Chicago
- Drei Husaren in Vienna
- Yan Ting in Singapore

I'm a little uncomfortable with threads like this as it looks a bit like comparing incomes - some of us have bigger incomes than others.

But my most extravagant meal was as a student in Oxford. I had inherited a small amount of money from a grandparent - not an amount of money that would change my life - so I decided to have fun with it. I took my then girlfriend to a new Thai restaurant (The Thai Orchid) at a time that Thai restaurants were very new in the UK and very hip. We had a meal where we didn't need to look at the prices - we ate and drank whatever we wanted. The total bill would look small to me today; the restaurant might look a bit plain. But at the time, we felt like royalty.
