Question Where did the restaurant go?

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I went out for dinner yesterday and planned on using a Restaurant.com cert. When I checked on the cert. site for local restaurants one came up that was suppose to be up to date. When we got to the area we could not find the rest. anywhere. There was a rest. at the address where the rest. was suppose to be but it was under a different name. We checked with the new rest. and was told that the other rest. had been closed for some time and they had taken over the building.

Needless to say they do not accept the cert. for the old rest.. How often does this happen? From on now I'll call the rest. before printing out the cert. to make sure they are still in business.

How hard is it to get reimb. for a cert. for a restaurant that is no longer in business and how soon do they take it off the list so others don't have the same problem?

Thanks

Sounds to me like the first path of attack would be to request a refund from restaurant.com....and if they deny your request, simply dispute the charge with your credit card company. It would seem easy enough that if what you received no longer has value, it should not have been available for purchase.

(Caveat - You noted that this certificate was for a local restaurant, which is probably the only type of restaurant for this would work. If the establishment has more than one location, even if one is in Florida and the other in Alaska, I wouldn't expect restaurant.com to refund your purchase given that there is indeed a location at which the certificate can be used.)

I've had that happen a couple times. Both times, Restaurant.com was very responsive. Instead of getting a refund, I accepted a credit that I could use toward any other restaurant gift certificate. I waited until the first of the month (when they make new certificates available) and got one of the ones that sells out pretty quick. Considering I had bought my original certificate with a coupon (and the certificates for the new restaurant always sell out before coupons become available) I was quite happy.

Thanks for the info. I contacted Rest.com and they gave me credits for any rest. I want to use. They were very friendly and fast.
