If it's not soup, I can usually deal with too spicy...Thai restaurants in Thailand usually give herbs to calm the fire down, but in Mexico, I've seen folks go for salt.

I suspect rice is a good suggestion. For many years before going to Thailand the first time I enjoyed the Thai soup, tom yum goong. The first time in Thailand, I was eating at a restaurant in Phuket with a group and ordered it. When it arrived I picked up a spoonful and was about to put it in my mouth when a Thai friend sitting nearby stopped me and said dont eat it like that its so spicy it will kill you. I explained that I eat it all the time. He said, not here you dont. He instructed me to put it over rice a little bit at a time. It was wonderful that way but still hot. Later in the visit I ordered it in a restaurant in Bangkok without any adult supervision and tried a small amount straight. He was right.
LOL, I was thinking it was somewhere near home. Turns out it wasn't.

Thanks. Unfortunately, that's not near home. Mr. Kipper was there for work and I must've been there for a weekend to visit.

Probably a little far. And, with my luck, the driver would smoke on the way and the food would smell of cigarette smoke. Then I'd have to make a post about that.

I enjoy spicy food but sometimes my enthusiasm gets the better of me. What works is anything with oil or fat in it like milk or yogurt. My solution after inadvertently eating an entire ghost pepper was to swish a tablespoon of olive oil in my mouth for a couple of minutes and then spit it out. Mrs. Badenoch is less appreciative of spicy food and if I make something that is too hot for her liking she will stir in some high-fat yogurt to reduce the heat.

Yoghurt works for me too. After all, Raita is used extensively in India for that exact purpose.
