Grazie Texmanufan. Just a side note, today we received a duplicate VIP card. When I saw the envelope, I was hoping for a promotional discount, but it was the same packet we received a few days earlier.

Get over the attitude
Having dined at those finer steakhouses in N.Y. I couldn't agree less. I've never dined in a better steakhouse.

Dined by myself at at the Morton's in NYC about a month ago. Hostess offered me magazines (current) and I had my iPhone to read the paper. Staff couldn't have been nicer. Service was great. Food was what I expected. Was offered an after dinner drink. I won't race back, but the treatment was pretty good, so I wouldn't avoid Morton's either. Obviously not the premier choice in Manhattan, but it held its own against other steakhouses I've tried.

I called the San Francisco restaurant for a reservation tonight and also asked about the corkage fee. The lady on the phone told me is it NOT waived. Bummer. I'm not going to pay $30 for someone to open my bottle of wine. I didn't have this problem in Phoenix.

Call back and ask to speak to the manager.

I paid an impromptu lunch visit to the Morton's in midtown about a month ago. I walked in and showed the hostess my VIP card, just so she could make a note of my visit. I asked if I could sit at the bar and she said "sure". I had an uneventful (albeit, somewhat slow) lunch and when I was done the bartender gave me the bill. No offer of an "after-lunch" drink or anything else related to my VIP status. Obviously the hostess didn't acknowledge my card (in hindsight, she probably wondered what the heck I was showing her at the hostess stand).
Anyhow, I though maybe the VIP benefits didn't apply at lunch, so I wrote to Morton's (corporate) and asked. A week or so later, the midtown Morton's manager called and was very apologetic. He said the VIP benefits apply whenever a VIP guest shows his/her card and he said he'd make sure the staff was aware of the card and what it means. I assured him that I didn't write to corporate to complain, only to confirm the VIP benefits and policies. I said my lunch experience was fine and that I probably would have turned down the "after lunch" drink anyway. He told me to make sure I ask for him the next time I stop by the restaurant and he'd "take care of me". Hopefully he meant that in a good way.

Lunch today at Sacramento with La Cochinita, our son, and my mom. Three of us were celebtrating December birthdays. On arrival we were greeted warmly by the maitre d' who wished each of us a happy birthday (by name) and presented menus with a personalized birthday greeting.
We enjoyed lunch from the prix fixe menu, adding a few sides for the table plus a bottle of wine. Lunch came with dessert but because 3 of the 4 of us had birthdays, the waitress insisted we each pick an extra dessert for them to pack up for us to take home. Including La Cochinita who wasn't celebrating a birthday. So we ended up with 8 desserts!
Total lunch tab for the four of us was a reasonable pre-tip $250 before applying my $100 VIP birthday gift card.
A very good dining experience made special by the staff.

My final bill was $80.
