Another FTer and I polished off a box of Awesome Walnut Square Bars this week.

My excuse of buying See's to handout... works every time. :o

My 7 yr old can identify their entire product line by sight - no "previewed" chocolates at our house!

What I like best about See's is that everything in the custom selection shop is gluten-free - that means safe for the two of us to eat.

As to which piece I like best, well, there are only about 4 pieces out of the entire line I don't like: Mayfair, the nasty burnt sugar thing, malt truffle (has gluten, but only comes in boxed truffle assortments) and the raisin thing. (I really, really hate raisins)

Usually we swing by See's about once a month and get each get our own personal bag - I think tomorrow will be the day, as I can hear a chocolate buttercream calling me right now....

I'll take a 2 pound assorted dark chocolate box and work my way through it. :D

When I was home for Thanksgiving, I tried some of the sugar-free varities (S/F Peanut Brittle, dark chocolate peanut clusters and dark chocolate bars - I didn't try the walnut or almond clusters). All were very good, with well-blended flavor (with S/F candy, some of the national brands are virtually inedible). The brittle and the clusters are sold in shrink-wrapped packages (no individual pieces, AFAIK).

Yes it is true. Mom89339 worked for See's when I was in grade school. She still remembers most of the swirls--well at least the classic ones.

Any chance Mom89339 is Lucy or Ethel? :D

Bordeaux have always been the hands-down favorite here in SoCal where we can get all the See's we like. My really far down the road 2nd are molasses chips. Never tried the California Crunch - guess that's worth a stop tomorrow :)

We want to try that too. I hope it isn't something temporary they're offering to try out.

Compared to Esther Price, See's is :td:

Better product, better/fresher ingredients, better price ($10.90 for an 18-oz "pound" vs. $14.50 for a 16-oz pound)

Sorry.

boxo Dec 4, 2007 3:02 pm

Thanks for raining on our See's parade. :p

I've never heard of Esther Price's... and I see why. She's in Ohio. I flew into TOL once, back in '89. Flew out the day after the Niners kicked kitty Super Bowl butt.

Seriously, I'll give them a try next chance I get.

I never realized that See's came from the West. I never had any until I married my husband, who was born and raised in Green Bay. His stepmom gave them to us every Christmas. I'm a total sucker for anything caramel, but I think the See's I like are actually chocolate on the outside and butterscotch on the inside.
