Your favorite See's candy?

So I'm heading to the East Coast soon and was thinking of little West Coast-y things I could have on hand to give, to say front desk staff, tour guides, FT DOers etc. and if I got hard up for a few things, I could always hit the See's Candies kiosk at the airport.

My faves in no particular order:

-- the rum raisin nougat
-- lollypops (vanilla, I like least)
-- molasses chips

What are yours?

dhammer53 Oct 13, 2007 2:16 pm

The 1 pound box. :p

bamboola Oct 13, 2007 2:22 pm

The 5-lb box of nuts and chews! :p

Good answers, guys! Why didn't I think of that?

I've never met a See's candy I didn't like. :o

California Brittle is my favorite

Me neither. <burp>

BamaVol Oct 13, 2007 5:38 pm

I'm not crazy about cream centers, but my favorite was that jelly/marshmallow one you used to be handed as you entered.

Jaimito Cartero Oct 13, 2007 5:40 pm

You won't See any See's left around here.

Costco has gift certificates for $21 or so for two one pound certs. I've often gotten 1/2 pound boxes made up custom and given them to friends, relatives, and even FAs. They've always seemed to appreciate them.

I don't like peanuts much, so the boxed nuts and chews always have ones that I don't like so much.

I like the Scotchmallow, California Brittle (milk and dark), pecan buds (turtles), rum nougat, blueberry truffle, and dark coconut the best, though almost zall of them are good. They have come out with a sugarfree item or two, lately, but I haven't had time to check them out.

AlexB Oct 13, 2007 5:54 pm

A 2 lb. box of marzipan.

Non-NonRev Oct 13, 2007 6:09 pm

I can't eat it any more, but P-Nut crunch was my all-time fave:

Dark chocolate with raspberry or pineapple and APPLE PIE TRUFFLE!

VL83 Oct 14, 2007 6:27 pm

I like many See's offerings, but above all I find the dark chocolate almonds irresistible. I'm facing an interesting problem: going to Belgium in two weeks where one finds delectable chocolates. But are they worth 3 to 5 times the price of the See's varieties? Perhaps reflecting my insensitivities: I think not, decidedly.

scoow Oct 14, 2007 6:38 pm

Chocolate Little Pops ^

ijkh Oct 14, 2007 7:04 pm

Yes

Oh specifically the rasberry with dark chocolate ummm

the apricot with coconut on the outside

the carmel with the marshmellow in dark chocolate.

Don't get me started.:o

That's the Scotchmallow, one of my faves. :)

bigguyinpasadena Oct 14, 2007 8:09 pm

I like the weird ones like the bodeaux creams, the mayfair, the one with mashmallow and carmel, and the thin crisps.

caleo Oct 14, 2007 9:57 pm

California Crunch.

Crunchy peanut butter covered in a very thin layer of white chocolate and coated in chopped walnuts. yum.

Pat89339 Oct 14, 2007 11:50 pm

#1 - Rocky Road (hand cut) all the way!
#2 - Almond Buds

Ted S Oct 14, 2007 11:53 pm

So many yummy choices. As odd as it sounds I've use to like their sugar sticks but I haven't seen those in years.

These days I'm partial to dark chocolate chews and molasses chips. They really need to open more airport kiosks with individual candies for sale -- the whole buy a box, eat a box on the flight mentality has not done well for me.

Peanut Crunch also gets my vote! Pecan buds would be a close second.

Date Nut (RIP)
Caramel
California Brittle

I love their little round milk chocolate balls. Sometimes the simplest things are best.

boxo Oct 15, 2007 3:38 pm

Glad I started this thread. So many of your faves I've never heard of, but maybe I've had. I dunno. It's not like each one comes labeled.

I won't be at SFO till first of November; I'll have to swing by the kiosk.

I second the truffles, and the round milk balls.
Dark chocolate covered raisins are great to kill time during the delays at SFO.:)

As a native Georgian and someone who has eaten peanut brittle since I was a baby, I am embarrassed to admit that having tried every brand I could get my hands on over the years, See's is the incontrovertible winner, both in the proportion of peanuts to candy and in the fact that unlike lesser brands, the brittle has a silken rather than sticky finish. I would even go so far as to describe See's version as elegant. Now if they would just return to Atlanta at Xmas as they did for years with a kiosk at Lenox Square!!!:(

Cory Oct 20, 2007 2:11 am

I'm a fan of the nuts and chews.

Particularly Scotchmallow. Definitely my favorite.

I also like their toffee nugget chocolate bars.

Thank you Boxo

Ask, and you shall receive. :o ^

My good friend mjm was reading this thread. As he transitted SFO, he picked up a 1 pound box of Sees and personally delivered it to me in New York. ;) It was a nice surprise.
I might add that Sees chocolate is a fine desert after a reuben sandwich at 1:00 am at Katz's Deli.

Note to self, next time ask for a 2 pound box. :D

Robt760 Oct 20, 2007 2:40 pm

Ya'll need to visit a "real" See's shop.... not a kiosk at an airport to get the full experience.

1. When you enter, you are given a free sample every time
2. You can mix and match and vertually build your own box of favorites
3. They will gift wrap the box for no charge in a variety of seasonal papers
4. They wear their traditional Black and White uniforms
5. Much more variety of items to choose from than a kiosk

So true. My last visit was on this past Valentine's Day. mr. horse glasses, being the gentleman that he is, decided to take me to See's and let me pick out my own chocolates, rather than getting me a mixed box (apparently he doesn't like it when I "check" to see what's in them before eating them!).

I recommend this to all you men out there! Though maybe go the day before, otherwise the store is full of men who waited til the last second to buy anything and single women in pajamas feeling sorry for themselves.

True, but getting there isn't convenient. I know I'll be at SFO soon though.

Hey if it makes it any better, I would be right there with them if I was single!

Molasses chips...mmmmmm!

The Awesome Peanut Brittle Bars live up to their name, too.

Dark chocolate Chocolate buttercreams...Yum!

I'm not sure if this is true, but I once heard that, for the chocolate pieces, you can tell what's inside by the pattern of the "squiggle" of chocolate on the top. Is this true?

cja Oct 22, 2007 6:30 pm

love the ones with almond clusters!

Yes it is true. Mom89339 worked for See's when I was in grade school. She still remembers most of the swirls--well at least the classic ones.
