now dont get me wrong, I dont HATE starbucks...

...they are just kinda like that girl you knew in college who you used to date and have over and even though you broke up, sometimes you want some. hahahaha

And, how could you hate a place that lets you do this:

I went in to one once and bought a $30 item off the store shelf as a gift to a friend with my mileage earning credit card. I had every intent to just make my purchase and be done, but my wife and I decided not to give that as the gift of choice to the person it was intended for and I decided to bring it back and get a refund.

I realized I didnt have the card with me that day so they told me they could either provide a gift cert or put the money onto any other card. I handed them a debit visa tied to a checking account I have. $30 showed up a couple days later. That's cash. Got the 30 miles AND the cash back.

hmmm... Maybe we ought to all try spending $1,000 in a store and doing this trick on purpose! Of course, so as to do SOME sort of business with them, go ahead and buy a coffee in the process too.
:D:D:D

I tried to take a picture inside a Starbucks in June. I was told that no pictures were allowed. So I went outside and took one from some distance away of a friend of mine standing in front of the Starbucks with his Starbucks latte and you could see in the store some. Not too tough with a 70-200 f/4L lens. It has closed since then, it was the Starbucks in the Forbidden City in Beijing. They were incredibly sensitive about the local people being upset that there was one there and it eventually closed last month.

Starbucks doesn't have Baristas, they have people who push buttons to make burnt coffee beans into a liquid. I actually ordered a double shot of espresso today for the first time in about 4 months. It had crema but it was so burnt/bitter/yucky I barely could drink it. It cost way to much to. Like $2.30 for a tiny demitase cup.

My youngest son currently works at Starbucks-CLT so no unusual experiences for me;)

Sort of similar post with the one below so I"m deleting this one (the below one is better.)

But here's another unusual experience - Just when I thought Bayonne (a small city next to Jersey City) was Starbucks free in the local Stop and SHop... that green circle.

If I"m despirate I'll get a Frappachino. Even in winter.

They had a Starbucks at the Forbidden City? Isn't that screligious? - like putting a McDonald's inside the Vatican.

It's like we're "chaining" ourselves to death (Chaining is my word for putting a locaiton of a popular world chain like McDonalds or Wal Mart or Starbucks everywehre!)

I prefer Peets Coffee. Or Pepsi. :)

This story was referred to me by a Secret Shopper (someone who evaluates customer service... like Cozamel Jen and even me sometimes...)

Shopper went to Newark Airport to evaluate three pre-security Starbucks. (The shops were to be done in the evening from 4p to closing time. Posted hours showed them open to 9pm.

The shopper shows up about 7:55pm and going to each one over the next several minutes sees at all three shops the employees closing early. Shopper points out the closing time and asks if there ws a problem forcing them to close early. One worker at one shop said they can close early with no business. Another worker gave attitude and said she was tired and with her friend chimming in wanted to get out of there.

At all three shops customers did show up and were told they could only get regular coffee or water.

Shopper reported the results and Starbucks and HMS Host (who runs the concesssions at Newark Airport) repremanded people for cutitng out early.

Since then an HMS Host employee will show up, unexpectedly, to check on if workers are opening late or closing early.

DON't know if that's unusual but it goes to show you can't sneak out of work early! :)

4) My father in law actually said he thought the Starbucks coffee we got him tasted like real European coffee. He is Dutch, meaning coffee runs thru his blood (seriously, he does drink about 12 cups per day, even though those are non American sizes.) But my fear--and ultimately his even though he does not yet realize it, is that Starbucks plans to invade Holland and open stores up all over the place. Currently, the king of really great koffie over there is the very tastey Douwe Egberts (http://www.de.nl/) and lemme tell ya, a Holland that somehow allows Starbucks to win out over DE is not going to be the same tiny country! I fear for this. I really do. (PS: you must note that any faction of that brand sold in the US has never been as good as the real stuff you buy in Holland. I always pack in so many of those vaccum sealed boxes that US Customs has to stop and ask me questions every time. the stuff costs a lot less too, and I know I can get the imports here but they charge more than triple for it so I would rather fly over to see family again... to a land that is currently still free of the green Starbucks logo and style of doing business in the USA!

Holland is no longer starbucks free, one opened up recently at schiphol airport. pretty sure it is some sort of test run, since the european distribution center for starbucks has been in amsterdam for a couple of years now.
I prefer a nice cup of Illy any day of the week though.
