Went to a Starbucks by the Novotel Euston in London...the cup topper broke.
Then a couple of days later, went to a Starbucks somewhere else in Lonon...the cup topper broke They never break on me in the States. Also, went to the Starbucks in the Forbidden City in China. People make it out to be some symbol of corporate capitalism invading traditional cultures...but it was only a small kiosk in a giftshop. |

Not too unusual, but an interesting juxtaposition - we enjoyed grabbing a quick coffee and snack at the Starbucks next to the Globe Theater in London. A touch of the old and the new traditions.

My sister saw an unusual Starbucks event in Brooklyn last week. My sister ordered a venti decaf hazelnut latte, no foam. The woman immediately behind her in line ordered the exact same thing. My sister was thinking, "What an odd coincidence" while she waited in line to pick up her drink. But when the first of the two lattes arrived, the woman swiped it and hurried away. My sister, of course, was irritated, but took the second one when it arrived a minute later. It all made sense when she overheard the woman complaining at the register that someone took her drink when it was placed on the counter. Naturally, the baristas made her a freebie.

Baristas in a local store in Taipei comped my venti coffee after they ran out of Equal sweetner. ^

Iced coffee is double brewed (as a base in large quantities at the start of the day I believe) for strength and so it doesn't taste watered down with the ice. Often times when they run out of the double brew base in later afternoon/evenings, they substitute it with an iced Americano with the equivalent amount of shots.
I always give a phony name too (Tim), mainly because I don't like having to stand there and spell my somewhat foreign name. My phony name is Frank, so if I get someone elses coffee by mistake, it won't be yours. |

I once ordered 4 hot drinks to carry back home from a Starbucks, but they'd run out of those recycled cardboard tray things, so I asked for a bag. They refused to give me one in case I spilt the drinks, burnt myself and sued them :rolleyes:
In the end, I asked for "a bag that I coincidentally, and nothing to do with my recent drinks order, would like to have for entirely personal and innocent reasons" and they relented. |

I was just this weekend in Bedford, Indiana (25 miles south of Bloomington, 80 miles south of Indianapolis, 60 miles NW of Louisville, 40 miles from the nearest Interstate highway) and there was a brand new 2 story Starbucks (drive through and all) on the main street out by the US route. WOuld not have been out of place in a suburban strip, but wow!
