Are you sure on Costco and GG? I am all over it if that's true.
Then I can just pour the Kirkland into an empty GG bottle for looks. :p Honestly, once you get into the super premium vodkas, the difference is all in the packaging. Vodka is distilled so many times that it tastes like nothing. Just buy the cheapest at the particular store you go to of Ketel, Stoli, Tito's, or Grey Goose. |

Skol!!! LMAO ;) Most of my bar patons like the Goose but I can't afford it. I actually like Smirnoff for my income level. |
Titos at the airport. Dry Fly to purchase, if you can find it.

After a quick look through the state board site, I did not see Monopolova available, so I'll recommend Russian Standard or in a real bind, Svedka.

I'm also a fan of Russian Standard, thankfully it's widely available and often on special at our local Co-op.
An unusual vodka I tried a couple of years ago at a food show was Black Cow, made from milk! It was very smooth and easy to drink, but not cheap at £28 a bottle. I think Selfridge's are peddling it for something like £37 now  |
I'm a Ciroc drinker, but I've been trying to find a bottle of Jewel of Russia Ultra for several years to no avail. Curious if anyone's tried it and what you thought?

Looking for a recipe to use my bacon vodka in
I don't usually dig up old threads but found this one while trying to find any info on next summer's WineDO in NYC. |
I made a pasta with lemon and parmesan recipe that called for a bit of vodka.
Perked that lemon right up! Sparkly and fantastic! I've also made cantaloupe sorbet and added a bit of Midori at the end. Fabulous! (Don't add alcohol at the beginning or it won't freeze properly.) |
Stoli Gala Apple Vodka
I picked up this bottle of Stoli Gala Apple Voda for almost $6 at Trader Joes(it's going for $15 at BevMo) and its amazingly good. I love the tangy flavor of the Gala Apples. You can actually smell it and taste the hints of the Gala Apples.
I love Stoli and this Vodka is very smooth and I don't get a hangover like the other cheap Vodkas give you and yet you are paying the same price for it. Its a nice sipping Vodka for drinking at room temperature or over ice. I actually don't mind drinking Vodka at room temperature because it allows you to experience all the various flavors. As I understand they come in different Flavors. To me the Gala Apple is a versatile flavor and I wish airlines would serve the Stoli Vodkas. I have had the Vanilla Vodka and its really good. |
the 2021 vodka thread
MoDs: Before starting this thread, I did a rudimentary search to see if there were any other semi-recent threads on the same topic, and came up empty, but if I missed any, please feel free to merge away.
The topic is self explanatory. Basically, what vodka brands do you like and why? About 10 years ago, I watched an IFE segment on the subject. The producers did a blind vodka taste test using (non flavored) products that retailed between $5 and $500 per bottle. Testers were given shots and some common vodka based cocktails (non-vodka ingredients unchanged). IIRC, the results were: 1. there was no consensus favorite; 2. the stuff in the plastic bottles that supermarkets sell was easy to distinguish as bad; 3. at the Absolut level and above, the results were all over the map...to the extent that many of the experts felt embarrassed when their winners were unmasked. I have to admit that, while I'm a sucker for fancy bottles and compelling marketing (e.g. "hand made") tactics, I would surely flail similarly in a blind taste test. That having been said, taste isn't the only relevant variable. For example, if there was compelling evidence that A was purer than B, I'd go for A. |
I believe Smirnoff regularly wins blind tests, and Grey Goose is exposed as overpriced plonk.
|
I used to be a big Grey Goose fan...but I have switched to Tito's which I love and is half the price. If i am making limoncello I just use Smirnoff.
