Balcones is a mixed bag IMHO. Their head distiller left some time back, and they haven't been the same since.

Baby Blue is terrible. It's just foul. Band-aids and vodka and no real corn or wood flavors. The single malt is OK... but just OK.

I like their smoked bourbon (mesquite smoked, IIRC). They used to have another bourbon that was fantastic (True Blue, IIRC), but it's not available today.

Nice to see Willett's own distillate finally starting to come of age.

BamaVol likes this.

Has anyone tried Regent yet? It is from the collaborative efforts of Jim Beam and Suntory. Apparently suggested retail is about $35 per bottle. Just looking for impressions.

Doesn't Suntory own Beam these days?

(No, I haven't tried it, FWIW.)

Just arrived at vacation home in SW Florida yesterday and my local supplier suggests a bottle of 1792. Something about much of the bourbon in casks being lost to broken casks. Just has a sip or three...delicious!

I like their wheated, port-finished, and cask strength stuff. No idea about "broken casks."

The proprietor was probably referring to the rickhouse collapse at Barton 1792 last year.

https://www.courier-journal.com/stor...nds/762389002/

It has not affected the availability of 1792, as they have 28 other rickhouses on site.

I’d like to invite Flyertalk bourbon fans to the fifteenth LEX Horse and Bourbon DO Oct 3-6, 2019. Link in my signature.

Or check Community Buzz.

Every year we get numerous returnees.

In Austin for work and went to the local liquor store just to peruse -- found a bunch of bottles of Weller Special Reserve for $24.99, wasn't planning to check a bag home but considering the fact I've never even seen the new bottle/label of any of the Weller series in North Carolina I couldn't resist snagging one. Also snagged a 50ML Johnnie Walker 18YO for $5.99 -- better than getting my nightcap from the hotel bar (which I'm sure would have cost at least as much if not more for a lesser bourbon/Scotch)

Now I can open this bottle and hang on to my last unopened Weller 107 for a while longer

Friend hosted a bottle share tonight. Had Bald Monk, full range of some older BTAC, California Gold, 1969 Old Crow, WFE Bourbon picks, OWA picks, RR picks, local KC, EC picks, lots of dusty turkey.

Pretty epic.

I attended a bourbon tasting earlier. My favorite on offer was the Angels Envy.

I had some Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 23 last weekend. It was super: smooth as silk and strong vanilla flavors.

I've had the 20 and 21. Is this one which the sweet spot is actually older than that at 23, then?
