I am addicted to food blogs, okay, I can stop anytime...

Do you use them to plan trips? Do you use them to make dinner or seek inspiration? Do you ever comment on them?

Tonight I made the gateaux au yaourt from chocolate and zucchini cookbook that blossomed from her food blog.

It was delicious and damn easy to make, even managed to save it when I accidentally moved the temperature from 350 to broil.

What are your favorite blogs?

Some of mine are farmgirl fare, david lebovitz, chocolate and zucchini, orangette, chez pim and eggbeater. I will admit to sticking to the west coast or to france where I know the cooking and love the food.

Sadly, I never have paid much attention (for no other reason than ignorance) to any of the food blogs. I find that I get an itch for something specific, search for it, grab it and go. I am going to check out the ones listed here and, I am sure, that will lead to others.

Heh heh. Sounds like we read a lot of the same blogs--I get RSS feeds from all those, plus SchmutzigMSP's mention, Simply Recipes. A few other favorites are the evocative Lucy's Kitchen Notebook, and Smitten Kitchen and French Laundry at Home have joined my list for their snark value. If you read idiomatic French, take a look at Chez Georgette (it's surely a fake, rarely updated, but funny). C&Z and DavidL are great for Paris recommendations, but there are other wonderful French-language food blogs that keep up with French food happenings. I can't afford the time to get their RSS feeds so I just bookmark them (like that really keeps me from reading them!). One final rec is the award-winning Traveler's Lunchbox.

I absolutely adore The eGullet Society for Culinary Arts and Letters. I love their site overall - it's a bit to food and drink what FT is to travel and it has a great sense of community and fun, but lots of knowledgeable cooks (some are pros). Forums, recipes, news, discussion of cooking, dining, wine, beer, cocktails etc.

A special treat there is their weekly food blog, which features a different cook or food aficionado (and often a different region) each week. I especially love the tradition of starting off with photos of the cook's fridge contents or kitchen details (spice pantry, for example). Many people will detail where they shop and what they look for (often with photos).

Here is this week's blog from Nova Scotia, last week's from Malaysia and the index of previous blogs going back to 2003. One I just started reading is a week of cooking/dining in Moscow and of course, features some borscht!!! (Readers of the thread on borscht might like to compare notes? )

I can almost guarantee you will spend some hours reading these once you start! Please tell me if I am right or wrong!

And I apologize if I start you on another addiction.....

One of the ongoing threads that cracks me up is the Anti-Dinner thread, where people describe and often photograph, those meals that just didn't turn out quite like they were supposed to.

Just had to add a couple more blogs from eGullet. These are both from Israel, one features a Shabbat dinner and the other Hannukah. The second one was written at the same time as Dovster's FT Scoops the World thread was happening here on FT. Wonderful details and photos.

Although it's not just a blog, my favorite food-related site is Chowhound...maybe because I like dining out so much.

I really enjoy Smitten Kitchen (linked above) and actually really wish they posted more.

I'm partial to phnomenon, which is the only food blog covering Cambodia (where I live). EatingAsia is also great.

I find that I rarely look at Chowhound since the buy-out / format change.

Ono Kine Grindz about food in Hawaii is a great read, with clear photos of the meals being discussed. When I get homesick, I can at least read about the foods I miss

I love egullet and post on the nw region site and sometimes the middle eastern site. I use the French/Paris to do trip planning.

The tutorials, how to make things via pics are amazing. I also enjoyed the marshmallow and macaron threads.

Agreed, I do not like the look of chowhound anymore. I fear for other sites (ehem) for the same reason.

I guess I must be in the minority then...I actually like the new chowhound better - far better search feature is the main reason, but I like the design as well.

I agree that the search function is better - that was IMO the biggest problem with the old format. But I find the new design to be too fragmented and cluttered, and just not as visually clean and easy to read/use. Part of my gripe is that I most often frequented the international board, which has now been broken up into a multitude of boards. That in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but I don't like the way it was done.

I could go on, but this isn't the appropriate forum for that...
