I picked up a "Funky Llama" Cabernet from Argentina at Wild Oats Market tonight for $5.99 tonight. We shall see what we think of it tomorrow night.

You'd like it if you owned Yellow Tail! Those people must have made a mint. If it's good, it's good. And sadly enough, if you put a cute picture on the label it'll sell 10 times what a competitor will. Just good business sense. They were one of the first to figure that out, now there are cute animal sketches on every other bottle.

I've been enjoying Folie a Deux's "Menage a Trois". I find it at Sam's Club or Cost Plus World Market for $8 or $9 bucks.

That one had become our favorite table wine, very good.

My mother recently reported to me that she was going to use a bottle of Yellow Tail (which she'd received as a gift) for poaching pears, as it just wasn't worth drinking, even when drinking alone.

I'm so proud of her. :D

Yellow Tail has absolutely made some serious money - did a great job in marketing the product. I don't begrudge them that at all. That doesn't make the product "good" as you say.

McDonalds has made some big money - doesn't mean it's good.

Pears poached in red wine is a tasty dessert!

I was watching Rachel Ray on Food Network and she cooked her pasta is red wine which is a clever idea, if it actually imparts any flavor. It colored it anyway.

Geyser Peak - great wine and close to $12 when you get it at Price Club. You should also try the Tawny Port... more than $12, but yummy with vanilla icecream

"Concha y Toro-Casillero de Diablo" Carmenere. Carmenere is the "lost Bourdeaux varietal". It has decent body, little bit of spice like a Zin, and just a bit of fruit. $10 at Total Beverage in the DC area.

I tend to stay away from chardonnay and drink sauvignon blanc or pino grigio... but I really enjoy a bottle of Concha y Toro chardonnay.

You should be ^ Sales must be slowing down in the States, and it is appearing in New Zealand supermarkets. I bought a bottle to try it - it was dreadful. I am ashamed as an Australian to think that it marketed as an Australian wine overseas. :o
