I went to Red Robin with friends and their kids (6, 3) a few weeks ago out near BWI. I had been to one about three years ago and thought it was so-so, but was willing to give it another try as it was kid-friendly. I was definitely not impressed by the place. Their big thing was "unlimited french fries" with a burger. Which would have been ok, except the fries weren't particularly exceptional.

I think ElmhurstNick and I ate at the now-shuttered Red Robin in Calgary about eight years ago. It was OK, but then again it was the only place open in the area (it was rather late at night), so ...
I ate at an RR outside St. Louis about six months ago. Nothing to write home about -- I can get a better burger at half the bars in Peoria. And not only does Hungry Jack's have fried egg on their burgers in Oz, but McDonald's does, too (or at least it did when I was there six years ago). They also put sliced beets on the burger. Not bad, but not necessarily worth the extra effort. |
Perhaps there is some influence from the loco moco ? :D
Agree with everyone else about the underwhelmingness of Red Robin. What I remember it most for was the night I was staying at the Motel 6 (pre-FlyerTalk days ;) ) in Coalinga, California, and across the street was a Red Robin. It was prom night and there were many, many student couples there in their sort-of-fitting tuxedos and prom dresses. Kind of cute, actually. |
Fatburger offers an egg as an option, but I haven't been brave enough to try it yet.

In Korea, most of (non chain?) burgers comes with fried egg. I also heard someone saying that "in Seattle they slap a fried egg and call it gourmet burger". Can any Seattlelites confirm or deny this? |

There's a couple of RR's in town. So-so burgers. They're not large enough for me: I don't eat fries.
The best burger I have ever had was at a mini-chain (just 3 restaurants) in Ottawa. http://www.worksburger.com/ (click menu then burgers, check out 'lucky sevens') First time I had peanut butter and cream cheese ('hold the phone'). Second time I had the double patty with chili, really showed the quality of the beef they use. It was like steak. Yummy. |
I like RR, but am a bit more enamored right now with Island's in CA. They've got a jalapeno burger that is wonderful.
I like the teriyaki chicken burger at RR, and freckled lemonade. Yum. |

I like the teriyaki chicken burger at RR, and freckled lemonade. Yum. That said, I am NOT a fan of Islands. I get their Maui burger when I'm forced to (with friends/family/groups/etc.) and it's always underwhelming...as are their basket of boring seasonless fries. Menu is very limited and pricey. I also dislike Ruby's. Talk about kids running wild...ugh. Burgers are even less desirable than Islands. But their fried zucchini and malts are good. Fuddruckers is the only other $6+ burger place that I like other than RR, but their ambiance has little to be desired. It's like an overpriced fast food joint...thus I prefer RR for the "diner" experience. |

I've never been to an RR, but a fried egg on top of a burger sounds really good. :p

When I lived in Federal Way, the best place to get burgers was Burger Express. I prefer their teriyaki burger over RR's Banzai Burger, but now that I can't get to Burger Express, Banzai Burgers will do :)
They make excellent shakes, too! Though I love chocolate, I adore their cherry shakes. Mmm! I think it used to be one of the Mountain High Burger places. The other location is still in Kent, WA, but it isn't quite as good as Burger Express. Traveling to SeaTac? You can just head south on Pacific Highway (Hwy 99, aka International Blvd) until you get to Federal Way. You could go via I-5, but what the hey :) |
