Listen, it's 7 AM... the last thing I want is some bouncy, thick-rimmed, hair streaked 20-something act a little too happy to get my coffee. Don't ask me how I'm doing. It's 7 AM. I wish I were in bed. Don't ask me my name for the cup. When they say tall latte`, I'll go up and grab it. Don't aks me, "Would you like a pastry?" No. It's 7 AM... gimmee my d*mned coffee and I woulda asked for a pastry if I wanted one. Don't ask me if I want a pastry sample from one of your urine sample-sized cups on the counter. I woulda asked. Did I mention it's 7AM? Gimmee my d*mned coffee.

Oh, and lastly... don't look at me like I've got three heads if I ask for a SMALL latte` rather than a tall. Shut up and get me my coffee, dammit.

Starbuck's employees bug the living daylights out of me.

 Do you always wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

DD or Peets for me.

I agree that it's overrated, expensive and slow, but IMHO it's still way better than DD. And as to the speed, my regular NYC Starbucks is the one at the corner of 6th Avenue and 24th Street. This is, in my experience, one of the busiest Starbucks around (and there are lots of very busy Starbucks in NYC), but they move the line along with amazing speed. And because I'm a regular and they know my standard drink (double tall latte), the drink often is made and waiting for me by the time I reach the front of the line.

I find this response fascinating, particularly since I would place DD and Peet's on the opposite ends of the quality coffee spectrum, with Starbucks in the middle.

My exact answer. When I'm not too lazy, I'll head to the Peet's on Mass Ave in Lexington for a small latte (which already is made with a double shot: no need to pay for a second). Otherwise it's a double tall latte from Starbucks (alghough I have to say that paying for the second shot is offensive). I find DD's coffee to be undrinkable.

Starbucks for me. I only drink decaf, and love all of their strong decaf options, especially the Decaf Komodo Dragon!

And when I am looking for an Atkins-friendly drink I get a (and this is in order of the check boxes on the side of the cup):
Decaf
Triple
Sugar Free Vanilla
Heavy Cream
Extra Hot
Latte
My local Starbucks named this one after me, using my initials to refer to it!
:D

I like Starbucks - but always order a "medium" :p . Only get the coffee, no specialty drinks. I just don't get the kick out of DD that I do out of Starbucks. But, the best cup I've ever had was on the way to WSU in Pullman (from Seattle) about 25 miles or so before town at a place called "Caffeinze" or something of the sort. Just a shack on the side of the road. Served the cup with a chocolate covered coffee bean. That was a great cup of coffee. Looking forward to getting back there!

I've tried both and I drink a lot of iced coffee... and Dunkin Donuts definately has better iced coffee and it is much cheaper. The large there is also much bigger than the Venti.

Starbucks has the best coffee, Krispy kreme has the best donuts.

Ever notice how after a while, DD coffee starts tasting the same no matter what flavor you get? Or is it just me? :(

Sorry for the snobbery, but flavored coffee ≠ coffee, IMHO.

I actually prefer the drip I make in the office.

I like illy Expresso, but love those hole in the wall coffee shops with superior coffee, a plus if it's in a mom and pop cafe.

If I want the ambiance, I'll go to a Coffee Bean instead.

Yes agree. Although my mistake, I meant between flavored coffee (ie. hazelnut vs vanilla, etc). I still lthink it's just me.

There are Tim Horton's in Ohio (Dayton) that I stopped for coffee at 4am on my way to my 6:05 AM CO DAY-CLE flight...the coffee wasn't that good, but I attribute that to it being 4am in the morning....otherwise, TH coffee is pretty good...

As to DD over SB....I agree...I like SB coffe; but it's expensive; unless I am hankering for a Frappucino; I try to stick to DD because for $1.69 I can get a medium (grande to you SB people) Coffee with Cream and Sugar (and they do it for me) and the coffee is usually excellent....if I wanted the same at SB, it's minimum $3.05 for a TALL (small to you DD crowd; BTW SB just raised their prices a nickel a drink) and I have to mix my own cream and sugar....

Wet just gets you more hot milk, instead of foam. So a wet cappucino is something closer to a latte. It does not get you more coffee or more beverage overall, just changes the ratio of milk to foam.
