What would you do?
Tell the waiter you'd like an order of cockroaches; forget the eggroll.
 :td: |
Although distasteful in thought, cockroaches are considered relatively clean, I thought. I'd be more concerned about food preparers that use gloves to keep their own hands clean while the food filthy and employees that have to be told to wash their hands after using the toilet....and then touch all sorts of public things.

I'd be disgusted and ofcourse demand a refund and let the management know they need to keep insects out of their food. But to be honest I'd almost rather have a cockroach in my eggroll than a huge clump of hair... I've had a clump of hair in my food at an Italian restaurant once and I never wanted to eat again. Maybe that is just me but I'd rather have an insect in my food then hair/a finger nail/or something from a human that could be even more disgusting. I just lost my appetite :p

cockroach in your eggroll at upscale Chinese restaurant, what would you do?
I'd be relieved it wasn't half a cockroach! :p |
Chi Chi Restaurant
Deep fried cockroach may be digusting - but those folks that ate at the Chi Chi Restaurant at Beaver county weren't that lucky they got hepatitis - and I believe over 900 got sick and half a dozen died.

I would have immediately asked for the check, paid and left. I probably would have been too upset to haggle about the total.

oh please tell us what city it is in.

I agree with reporting it to your local health department.
A cockroach on the wall of the dining area might be forgiveable (maybe... I have seen them on the wall in a certain international fast food chain place in Hong Kong and wasn't overly concerned as well as a local restaurant), but in the food is absolutely sickening. Get them investigated again. Maybe even closed down this time. I would also stay away from the place and not return. Some buildings are so infested with vermin that they just can't be properly kept clean. Worst thing I've seen in my food was a short curly hair... That was in a pasta dish. Didn't eat the rest and never have returned. |
Positively nauseated at this point having read all the posts. I'm wondering, does anyone regularly check the health deparment to make sure restaurants they frequent aren't listed as offenders?
Though that sounds a bit OCD, I'm starting to wonder if that might be a good idea. |
First: Roaches are not a sign of an unsanitary kitchen, they are attracted to water. Restaurants frequently wash down their floors and it takes time to dry and some areas of the floor do not dry quickly.
Second: Employees that use gloves scratch their hair, nose, ears and crack of their taile with their hands in gloves and then handle the food. They go to the restroom and come back and put on their gloves. They pick up stuff off the floor with their hands in their gloves. They take out the trash with their gloves on and then prepare the food with those same gloves. I do not like to be served by a person that is wearing gloves. Studies have proven that employees wearing gloves are 87% less sanitary than employees that wash. Finally: "Could I have an order of worms with my roaches please?" :D |
