Bend, OR!!!!

Will be going to Bend, OR in a few wks for a relative's special birthday. Don't ski. Any ideas of what to do there otherwise? Will bring my snow shoes. Any good eats? Thanks in advance.

Snowshoeing is great fun!

Bend has just exploded in the last decade, and is esp. popular with Californians for some reason.

I can only suggest the Deschutes Brewery for excellent micros and decent pub fare. Ask for whatever is available on cask (cask-conditioned ale) and you can't go wrong. Usually it's either Mirror Pond Ale or Black Butte Porter.

I live in Bend, and I love it. I just went snowshoeing yesterday. Definitely bring them--the snow is perfect right now. We have lots of good places to eat and even better places to drink. Deschutes Brewery has good eats and good beer, Bendistillery has great martinis, and we had a great meal at the Pine Tavern the other day. Lots of good choices for you.

Stop by and see me at REI if you don't want to bring your snowshoes and you can rent them.

I went to Bend for the first time last March and absolutely loved it. Sadly, it was a weak season for snow. Deschutes was solid.

I also got some nice outdoor ice skating in at the Inn at Seventh Mountain. This outdoor swimming pool they had there definitely looked toasty but I didn't jump in. No idea on the accomodations as I stayed at the Motel 6.

Bummer about the snow on your trip last year--you should come back this year. Everywhere it is pretty and white!
For a good steak, you could check out Tumalo Feed Company. I had a great steak there a while back. Cooked to perfection and everyone was friendly, too.

We'll be going today so can't wait. If any of you are going to be in any of the above named restaurants, let me know!

Have a great time and bring a warm coat. I will be at REI every second until Xmas, but I hope to make it to Deschutes or McMinnamins for dinner and a beer after work tomorrow.
Let us know how your trip went!

It is really cold here in Bend! (I'm a woos from CA). Just ate dinner at Blacksmith's--excellent! Very impressive. Would highly recommend it for those who like to try new dishes. Lots of different dishes and steaks.

Mmmmmm...The Blacksmith. Great steaks, the trout is excellent, and their churros and hot chocolate are to die for. Great choice! Too bad it is way too cold to eat outside. It's really nice in the summer and fall.

We had lobster and crab starters, lobster bisque soup, finished off with the churros and chocolate. Pomagranite drops were great too!
